texas follows the philosophy of commit early or lose the ship, thats why they arent in the running for any other notable "5-star or 4-star commits" not saying its a bad thing but it just the way they always work...

Malcolm Brown Scared of Isaiah Crowell Coming To Alabama, Reason He Chose Texas?

When Malcolm Brown committed to Texas in August, was it mainly because Isiah Crowell was leaning heavily to Alabama?

That is a question that may never be answered by Brown, in all honesty, but as Crowell's senior season started off in such big fashion, he overtook Brown in the eyes of most recruiting gurus, as the nation's top running back.

Did Brown not want the competition?

Certainly Alabama has shown the propensity and desire to feature a two-back offense, and proven that it can work. They have a national title, as well as a Heisman Trophy to their credit, and both Ingram and Richardson are household names across the country.

But with Richardson as the star of the future and possibly Crowell coming to Alabama, did Brown not think he could cut into the top two?

Crowell has said for some time it was coming down to Alabama and Georgia, and with the 'Dogs in another SEC East tailspin, most of his friends have continued to say that the Bama lean is much stronger than before.

Brown also learned that Crowell and Richardson had formed a strong friendship and that may also have left him thinking he was the odd man out.

If Brown only wanted early playing time alone, then Texas is the place he should have gone. They have a pitiful running game and Texas will ride him like a rented mule.
If he wanted to be the only star in the stable, then Texas was the right place for him to go.

If he wanted to win championships, then Texas seems a lot further behind than Alabama, not just at this point, but for next year as well.

With Crowell having such a sensational senior year, most have him ranked as the nation's top back. Brown will lose a little of his luster, being mired in a Texas running game that may keep him as an afterthought for at least a few more years.

In the meantime, Alabama running backs will continue to be household names, leaving NFL scouts to waiting and drooling over the prospect of signing them.

Should Ingram leave for the NFL early, as many think, then the timing for a new running back at Alabama seems perfect.

If Brown was indeed scared of the competition there, that is a sad thing. It would have been a good battle to watch.
