Ups I fully understand what spring training is all about....I was just recaping the opener (since this is a Ranger Fan thread) while taking a shot at your pathetic Royals in the process...you should start a Royals or Iowa State thread lol

Pitching solid so far......a healthy Harden and Feldman would sure provide a nice 1 2 punch......word is Harrison has dropped 30 pounds and looks great......I see a rotation of Harden, Feldman, Lewis, Harrison, and Hunter in our future with a start here and there from Holland......McCarthy shows signs but he is so freaking injury prone.....would love to see Feliz in the rotation eventually but I think one more year in the pen is in order....Holland was probably rushed too soon and I don't think they will make that mistake with Feliz.......bullpen will be outstanding with the additions of Oliver (so glad he replaces Eddie!) and Ray to an already solid Oday, Feliz, Wilson, and Francisco......bullpen will come in big with Harden as he will be able to give us a solid 5 or 6 and then hand it over.....also loving the idea of this batting order: Borbon, Young, Hamilton, Vlad, Kinsler, Cruz, Davis, Salty, and Elvis.......lots of pop and lots of speed.....Borbon could be a big sleeper this year and Elvis should be solid with a year under his belt.....So ready for the season to start!

I've never been this decided about Ranger pitching. I wish they would use a 6 man rotation to help preserve Harden...lol

If they are smart (and with Nolan involved I think they are in good shape) they will not ask Harden to go beyond 5 or 6 innings. If we can get a solid 5 or 6 out of him we will be golden. This bullpen is going to be stout! We could have Feliz going the 6th and/or 7th with CJ in the 8th and Frankie in the 9th, with Oday, Ray, and Oliver pitching in spot duty. I have this feeling that Frankie is going to start falling apart and is breaking down, so Feliz or CJ could be the closer by the end of the season. I hope Frankie holds up but I just have gut feeling about him.

That still may be too much - Speaking of Nolan Ryan, Harden thinks he is him, trys to strike everyone out, and has 100 pitches by the 5th inning - it happened start after start last year for the cubs - 5 or 6 innings will not limit his pitch count.

I dont know what the answer is with this guy, i guess pitch him until he gets hurt - or shut him down for a couple weeks mid season? i dont know

Hopefully he will buy into the "pitch to contact" approach that Maddux and Washington preach. With potentially one of the best defenses in the league (Elvis, Borbon, and Kinsler up the middle, Young /Davis on the corners and Cruz and Hamilton on each side of Borbon) behind him I hope he buys in. I agree with you though, he can sometimes get to consumed with thowing instead of pitching. As a pitching coach at the high school level, I think the hardest thing is getting a pitcher to buy into this. We have this approach in our program but it's hard sometimes to turn a thrower into a pitcher.
