Books with diffrent Lines

Not sure if this is the right place too post this question, So please move if not.

Im just curious, why some bookies offer a really good value on a game then you go too a diffrent bookie and its really low?

example.

sportsbook 1. Canucks Moneyline woth 2.00

then on

Sportsbook 2. they are only worth 1.40

why such a diffrence from book too book?

A few main reasons.....Weight of money, meaning a team has been well backed at that book, forcing the price in or out.
The book is taking a "position" eg. the price is reflective of who they like. The other main one is laziness eg. they havn't got around to adjusting their prices to be more in line with other books, or where their position would like it.

Some sportsbooks are known to jack up lines on favorites

I can only speak about Vegas Books, and their football lines. Some Vegas books, most noteably the "M" and the Wynn, set early lines that are much different than the lines at other books just to try and get players into their casino and sportsbook. They will post a line that may be 1/2 to 1 1/2 points different from the norm. They normally do this early in the week, like the Sunday right after the lines come out, and leave those lines up until the following Monday or Tuesday. Sometimes longer. Remember in Vegas, the sportsbooks are only a small part of the casino's overall operation, unlike offshore books, where the sportsbook is the biggest part of their operation. In Vegas, the more people you get into your sportsbook, the greater your potential profit margin in all of the other gaming aspects of the casino can be.
