Monday 3/20/2017 NBA Betting Info

Preview: Atlanta At Charlotte
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, North Carolina

The Charlotte Hornets are far enough out of the race with 13 games left that making a run up to the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference would be a big surprise, but that doesn't mean they've given up hope. The Hornets will try to knock off a top-5 team from the East for a second consecutive game when they host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

Charlotte's three-game slide last week pushed it to 10 games under .500 while teams like Miami and Milwaukee were making moves forward, but the Hornets showed they weren't willing to pack it in on the season by stepping up and beating third-place Washington 98-93 on Saturday. "I think everyone knows how bad we needed this one, man," forward Marvin Williams told reporters. "We’re in a tight, tight spot right now. We don’t have very much room for error. We’re chasing some really good teams for the last couple playoff spots. We still believe we can do it so we’re just going to take it one game at a time. This was a huge win for us." The Hawks, who occupy the No. 5 spot in the East, dropped their last three games and are running out of time to jump ahead of the fourth-place Toronto Raptors and earn homecourt advantage in the first round. Atlanta failed to score 100 points in any of the last three games and shot 36.4 percent from the floor in Saturday's 113-97 home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Atlanta, Charlotte)

ABOUT THE HAWKS (37-32): Atlanta All-Star power forward Paul Millsap did not look like himself while averaging 13 points on 9-of-22 shooting in losses to San Antonio and Memphis earlier in the week and was given Saturday off to rest soreness in his right knee. The Hawks got a strong performance from power forward Ersan Ilyasova (23 points on 7-of-11 shooting) in Millsap's absence but could have used more from point guard Dennis Schroder, who went 2-of-14 from the floor. The 23-year-old Germany native is a combined 6-of-30 from the field in the last two contests and is 5-of-24 from 3-point range over the last six contests.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (30-39): Charlotte needs to go on a winning streak and get a lot of help in order to jump back into the race for the No. 8 spot in the East but gave itself hope on Saturday. The Hornets held the high-powered Wizards to 36.7 percent shooting and overcame some of their own struggles on the offensive end, including All-Star Kemba Walker's continued slump. Walker managed 16 points on 5-of-18 shooting in the win and is shooting 33.8 percent from the floor over the last four games, including 11-of-39 from 3-point range.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Hornets C Cody Zeller scored 19 points on Saturday after averaging 7.6 in the previous five games.

2. Atlanta C Dwight Howard recorded a season-high five steals on Saturday.

3. Charlotte took each of the first two meetings this season.

PREDICTION: Hawks 103, Hornets 96

Preview: Philadelphia At Orlando
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida

The Philadelphia 76ers have a chance to match their longest winning streak of the season when they visit the Orlando Magic on Monday. A rally from 13 points down helped the 76ers get past the Boston Celtics by a 105-99 margin at home Sunday afternoon, giving them two straight wins for the first time in over a month.

Philadelphia has won three in row on three separate occasions this season, including one that began with a one-point win at Orlando on Feb. 9. The Magic haven't won consecutive games since Dec. 23 and 26, failing in their last nine attempts to establish a winning streak. They have another opportunity in this one after wrapping up a three-game road trip with a 109-103 triumph at Phoenix on Friday. "We made plays down the stretch, but I was more impressed with how we started the game," coach Frank Vogel told the media after his team snapped a four-game slide in which it allowed an average of 119.8 points. "We had 17 deflections in the first quarter. That's probably a high for a quarter."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, CSN Philly (Philadelphia), FSN Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE 76ERS (26-43): Dario Saric's bid for Rookie of the Year continued with a 23-point effort in Sunday's victory. He is averaging 24.5 points over his last four road games and poured in 26 in the win at Orlando last month, throwing in a season-high matching three steals. Jahlil Okafor left the win over Boston with right knee soreness and coach Brett Brown told reporters he was not sure if the center would travel with the team to Florida.

ABOUT THE MAGIC (25-45): Guard Jodie Meeks (thumb) has a chance to make his return after missing two months of action, which would give Orlando - tied for last in the league in 3-point shooting (32.4 percent) entering Sunday - another perimeter option. The Magic were below that mark in the win over Phoenix but still got six players into double figures, led by Evan Fournier's 25 points. Center Nikola Vucevic is averaging 17.8 points and 12.3 rebounds in his last four games, collecting 18 and 17 against the Suns despite rolling his ankle the night before in Golden State.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Magic PG Elfrid Payton has recorded at least 10 assists in five of his last seven games.

2. Fournier flirted with a triple-double (24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists) in the previous encounter.

3. Sixers G Nik Stauskas has attempted 15 shots from beyond the arc over the last two games, and just two inside it.

PREDICTION: Magic 103, 76ers 99

Preview: Utah At Indiana
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana

The Indiana Pacers hope the current trend continues for just one more game as they work on holding a playoff positon in the Eastern Conference when they host the Utah Jazz on Monday. The Pacers have alternated wins and losses over their last 13 contests and are coming off a disparaging 116-91 setback at Toronto on Sunday in which they were pounded 51-33 on the boards.

Indiana is sixth in the East - 1 1/2 games ahead of ninth-place Detroit with 13 contests remaining (seven at home) - and will need another big effort from Paul George, who is averaging 26.4 points this month. The Jazz, who occupy fourth place in the Western Conference, look to get their offense going again after averaging 84.5 points while losing their last two contests. Utah’s fourth-leading scorer, Rodney Hood (knee) has missed the last two contests and is questionable for Monday, while All-Star swingman Gordon Hayward is just 9-of-30 in that span. The Jazz knocked off Indiana 109-100 on Jan. 21 as George Hill scored 30 points and Hayward added 27 for their third straight win in the series.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ROOT (Utah), FSN Indiana

ABOUT THE JAZZ (43-27): Utah leads the league in scoring defense (96.3 points) but gave up 34 points in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s loss at Chicago and has been outscored 58-38 in the final 12 minutes of the last two games. Hayward and Hill average almost 40 points combined, but Utah is missing both Hood (13.1 points) and Derrick Favors (9.6) while point guard Shelvin Mack (ankle) also is questionable. Center Rudy Gobert (13.2 points, 12.8 rebounds, league-high 2.5 blocks) continues to produce with six double-doubles in his last seven contests.

ABOUT THE PACERS (35-34): George, who is averaging 22.4 points after scoring 18 on Sunday, always is going to be the focal point for the offense but will need some help if Indiana is going to make an impact down the stretch. Point guard Jeff Teague is just 15-of-45 shooting over his last four games while center Myles Turner has scored a total of nine points over his last two, but the duo averages almost 30 points per contest. Small forward C.J. Miles also has struggled of late, averaging 7.6 points on 14-of-39 shooting over his last five games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Utah G Joe Ingles is averaging 13 points over the last four games - more than six above his season mark.

2. The Pacers, who own a 24-10 record at home, are 4-11 in the second game of back-to-back sets this campaign.

3. Gobert has recorded a block in 38 straight contests, the longest streak in the league this season.

PREDICTION: Pacers 103, Jazz 97

Preview: Washington At Boston
When: 7:30 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts

The race for second place in the Eastern Conference intensifies Monday night when the Washington Wizards visit the Boston Celtics for the latest edition of a testy rivalry. The teams engaged in some heated matchups earlier this season while jockeying for position behind the front-running Cleveland Cavaliers, with the second-place Celtics entering this one 1 1/2 games up on the Wizards after Sunday's 105-99 loss in Philadelphia.

Playing its second straight game without All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas (knee) - who is hoping to return for this one - Boston struggled to find a go-to guy when it needed one and blew a 13-point lead to fall to 4-4 in its last eight games. Washington has also hit a relative cold spell, losing three of four following a five-game winning streak after beginning a two-game road trip with a 98-93 loss at Charlotte on Saturday. "I just wish we would have made more shots," Wizards coach Scott Brooks plainly told reporters after a season-low 36.7 percent effort from the field. The home team has won each of the first three meetings, with Boston picking up a 117-108 victory at TD Garden in January in a game that featured plenty of jawing and a near-encounter in the back hallway between the locker rooms after the game.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, CSN Mid-Atlantic (Washington), CSN New England (Boston)

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (42-27): John Wall was one of many who struggled to find the mark in Saturday's loss, making 5-of-16 from the field in his second straight difficult offensive effort since suffering a foot injury Wednesday against Dallas. "It was one of those nights where you just couldn’t make shots," Wall told the media. "I think we did a great job of moving the ball, guys got great looks, missed a couple free throws that hurt us, but other than that, we just couldn't get into a rhythm. Couldn't make shots." Markieff Morris, who had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the previous meeting with Boston, has missed the last two games due to illness and is day-to-day.

ABOUT THE CELTICS (44-26): Boston needs each and every win to catch Cleveland, and Sunday's collapse against a beatable opponent could prove fatal in that pursuit. However, the team now begins a closing stretch in which it plays nine of 12 at TD Garden, including home games with the Wizards and Cavaliers and eight contests against teams that entered Sunday with a sub-.500 mark. Thomas has shined at home all season, averaging 30.5 points while shooting 41.2 percent from long range.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Celtics C Al Horford scored a season-high 27 points Sunday and is averaging 20.3 over his last three games.

2. Wall is shooting 36.8 percent in the three meetings with Boston.

3. The Celtics have lost their last three games on the second half of a back-to-back.

PREDICTION: Celtics 105, Wizards 101

Preview: Denver At Houston
When: 8:00 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas

The Denver Nuggets could not figure out a way to slow James Harden on Saturday and ended up with a 109-105 home loss. The Nuggets will get another chance on Monday, when they visit Harden and the Houston Rockets for the back end of a home-and-home set.

Harden recorded his 19th triple-double of the season and NBA-record seventh with at least 40 points when he went for 40 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Denver on Saturday. The triple-double was the fourth straight and second in a row with at least 40 points for the MVP candidate, who has his team comfortably in the No. 3 spot in the Western Conference. The Nuggets are less secure in their standing and occupy the No. 8 spot with the Portland Trail Blazers just 1 1/2 games back - one in the loss column - entering play on Sunday. Saturday's setback snapped a four-game winning streak for Denver, which plays nine of its final 13 games on the road beginning with Monday's tilt.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Altitude (Denver), ROOT Southwest (Houston)

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (33-36): Denver hung with the Rockets on Saturday despite missing two of its top three scorers (Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler) due to injury and with budding star Nikola Jokic limited to 22 minutes by foul trouble. "We could easily have won the game if we made free throws and finished around the basket," Nuggets coach Mike Malone told reporters. "I'm proud of the effort. We did a lot of good things. Clean up the undisciplined errors we made and hope for a different result when we play them (Monday) down in Houston." Gallinari (knee) and Chandler (groin) are both day-to-day.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (48-22): Harden is the engine that drives Houston but the team continues to get strong work from the supporting cast as well. Center Clint Capela went up against the big Denver front line on Saturday and came away with 16 points and eight rebounds to help the Rockets build up a 60-48 advantage on points in the paint. The 22-year-old Capela is shooting 63.6 percent from the floor on the season and he scored at least 15 points in four of the last six games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Nuggets PF Darrell Arthur (knee) missed the last three games and is day-to-day.

2. Rockets PG Patrick Beverley went 1-of-7 from the floor on Saturday and is shooting 21.4 percent over the last six games.

3. Houston took the first two meetings this season after Denver swept the series in 2015-16.

PREDICTION: Rockets 112, Nuggets 109

Preview: Golden State At Oklahoma City
When: 8:00 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The atmosphere won't be nearly as hostile with Kevin Durant sidelined by a knee injury, but the Golden State Warriors still won't be welcomed when they visit the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. The NBA-best Warriors only recently look like they've figured out how to win without Durant and will try to find a way to stop Thunder star Russell Westbrook.

Durant tilted the balance of power in the NBA when he decided to leave Oklahoma City and head to Golden State last summer, and the Thunder fans expressed their displeasure when the Warriors visited the first time on Feb. 11. Golden State breezed to a 130-114 win in that game and took each of the first three meetings this season by double digits, with Durant averaging 37.7 points. The Warriors are a different team without Durant in the lineup, however, and Oklahoma City enters the Monday meeting playing some of its best basketball of the season with five straight wins sparked by averages of 26.6 points, 14.4 assists and 10.8 rebounds from Westbrook in that span. Golden State dropped five of seven games after Durant went down but has since won three in a row while Stephen Curry slowly regained his MVP form.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (55-14): Curry went 18-of-76 from 3-point range over a seven-game span before sitting out a loss at San Antonio on March 11 and finally found his shooting stroke in the second half of a 106-104 win over Philadelphia on Tuesday. Curry followed that up with an 8-of-15 effort from the field against Orlando on Thursday before burying 6-of-8 3-pointers in a 117-92 drubbing of Milwaukee on Saturday, including a pull-up from just inside the half court logo that reminded the fans of similar shots from his MVP seasons. "Soon as I got the rebound, Shaun (Livingston) was telling me 2-for-1 and I kind of zeroed in a spot I wanted to pull up from with the time that was on the clock and the difference between shot clock and game clock and it worked out," Curry told reporters of the deep 3-pointer.

ABOUT THE THUNDER (40-29): Oklahoma City is fighting with the Los Angeles Clippers for the No. 5 spot in the West and sits a half-game back - tied in the loss column. Westbrook had a streak of four straight triple-doubles come to an end when he was held to 28 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds on Saturday in a 110-94 win over Sacramento and got a boost off the bench from small forward Doug McDermott, who scored 21 points - his most since joining the team at the trade deadline - on 8-of-9 shooting. "Credit the coaching staff here that I’ve been working with every morning before practice and after practice," McDermott told reporters. "I just have to continue to get better."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Thunder C Steven Adams collected 16 points and 13 rebounds on Saturday for his first double-double since Feb. 26.

2. Warriors SG Klay Thompson is 13-of-24 from 3-point range over the last three games.

3. Durant is expected to travel with Golden State to Oklahoma City and Dallas to continue his rehab.

PREDICTION: Warriors 121, Thunder 116

Preview: New York At L.A. Clippers
When: 10:30 PM ET, Monday, March 20, 2017
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to fight off the Oklahoma City Thunder in the battle for the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference and got some outside assistance in that quest when the Cleveland Cavaliers decided to take it easy on Saturday. The Clippers will try to turn that momentum into back-to-back wins when they host the New York Knicks on Monday.

Los Angeles dropped three in a row before the Cavaliers came to town and decided to leave LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love on the bench, leading to an easy 108-78 win for the Clippers. "I'd like to thank (Cleveland coach) Ty Lue," Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers told reporters after the win. "That was very nice of him tonight." The Clippers could be in for another easy one against the Knicks, who dropped four of their last five games and count star forward Kristaps Porzingis as day-to-day due to a thigh contusion. New York has been off since suffering a 121-110 home loss to the NBA-worst Brooklyn Nets on Thursday which clinched the franchise's fourth straight losing season.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT, MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE KNICKS (27-42): New York coach Jeff Hornacek insists that he is still trying to win games, and All-Star Carmelo Anthony is still logging heavy minutes, but the losses keep piling up. "For me it’s my duty to just — regardless of what’s the situation — just go out there and play and figure it out and try to win," Anthony told reporters. "Until they say don’t play no more or limit our minutes or things like that. We still have to go out there and play and finish the season out." The Knicks are beginning a four-game west coast trip on Monday and will not face another team currently out of the playoff race until the season finale against Philadelphia on April 12.

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (41-29): Los Angeles did the same thing as Cleveland at Denver on Thursday, sitting Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan on the second night of a back-to-back and falling 129-114. Both players appeared well-rested while combining for 36 points on 14-of-22 shooting and 25 rebounds against the undermanned Cavaliers on Saturday. Point guard Chris Paul did not get the night off on Thursday and struggled on Saturday, going 0-of-8 from the floor in 27 minutes and finishing with five points - the second time in three games he failed to reach double figures.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Anthony is averaging 37.5 minutes in March while shooting 38 percent from the field.

2. Clippers SG J.J. Redick is averaging 17.5 points over the last four games - up from a season mark of 14.7.

3. Los Angeles took the last nine in the series, including a 119-115 win at New York on Feb. 8.

PREDICTION: Clippers 116, Knicks 103
