Proposed NFL Line Movement Contest Format

NFL Line Movement Contest

It appears that there may be some interest in a contest to predict NFL line movement throughout the season. After some discussion with Dr. Jack, I am going to have BetFirstClass sponsor what in all likelihood, should be an interesting endeavor.

Due to the unique aspect of something like this, I am going to put this out here for a little discussion before finalizing the rules and getting started on Sunday afternoon.

Let's hear what you guys think.

PRIZES
There is just one; $750 in the winner's BetFirstClass account (winner take all).

No deposit is required but you must have signed up for a BFC account and email that information to me, no exceptions.

PROPOSED RULES

1. Contest will begin the first week of the NFL regular season on Monday (September 6th) and will end with the last week of the NFL regular season. Everyone will be required to select exactly 50 game over the course of the season in which thet will post a predicition of the line movement.

2. Each week on Monday, there will be a thread with lines posted from BetFirstClass that act as the openers to determine the starting point for the line movement for the coming week. The lines posted in the thread are static and all weekly entries will use the lines posted in the thread. Deadline for posting is Monday at midnight.

3. You can play a maximum of five games per week. You can skip a week, just as long as by the end of the season, you have posted exactly 50 total games.

4. The scoring is simple, pick the team for which you think the line will move in their direction for any given game in the defined week. For example, if in Week 1 you posted the Giants vs Carolina like so:

Carolina vs Giants -7

In this example, any line movement on the Giants will be used to score the contest. The scoring is based on straight action points relative to the opener. If the Giants close at -8 at BetFirstClass, you will be awarded 1 point, if the Giants close at -6 you will be penalized 1 point.

Conversely if you posted:

Carolina +7 vs Giants

Then the scoring is tied to Carolina. (Carolina +6 = 1 point awarded, Carolina +8 = minus 1 point)

5. It is acceptable to post the games in advance, because of the fact that the contest is being constrained to a Monday post and entry, its reasonable to assume not everybody will be available to make plays. If you post games in advanced that do not yet have a line, just make sure its clear which team you want to be chosen for scoring. Remember only 5 games for any given week.

6. Feel free to score your track your own scoring. Official scoring is based on the closing lines at the time of kickoff displayed by BFC.

7. All questions and concerns should be posted in this thread..

8. Any disputes are disagreements with the scoring system will be addressed as best as possible.

Comments and suggestions posted over the next 40 hours are encouraged and appreciated.

Seanie, over the past two weeks I sent out over 500 emails to BFC customers and this really jacked up my email account. That said, I never received a message from you.

I think that 50 games at max of 5 games per weak is a reasonable sample of the season as there are a total of 256 games, so roughly 20% of the available games.

Coming up with the proposed guidelines was a bit of a joint effort with huge props going out to UVA for his extensive input. ..

The past few days have been the busiest of my fuking life. Not complaining but it has been really fascinating watching all of the players come out of hibernation.

BTW, what makes you think I ever liked you in the first place? (j/k)

What do you think about Viejo's new gig down the dial.

lol we had differences before but i do have alot of respect for you.

Love Viejo, think he is a great asset. Just not sure how he is really gonna help that place or what his actual duty is. They need to drop some dead weight seriously starting with Jimmy. That place has nothing that sets it apart anymore from any other forum now that Ken is gone. It's just an oversized mediocre forum. Cappersmall shits on that place.

I have absolutely no reason or need to view that forum anymore.

Whenever you get a few down time minutes shoot me an email

This is a very good contest and can be a true indicator of one's capping ability, I highly suggest more people take interest

Maybe Jack can throw in some weekly prizes, ala double points for a week in Technicapping Forum

I will be participating in the contest and will BetFirstClass will put up an additional weekly prize for every contestant that beats my score. The amount of the weekly prize will depend on the number of contest participants and will be determined as soon as I can gauge the interest.

Judge I would go ahead and post the contest and see how many people register

perhaps make the registration deadline october 1, which still allows for 50 plays to be entered

would it strictly be on the line of the game or could we project movement of over/under also?
