Some baseball stats/numbers/thoeries/rants/garbage
Read "moneyball" about Billy Beane and his job as A's GM
I have a lot of thoughts I'd like to get into but the first one after doing some calculations was this : .300 batters 5 AB/game = 45AB = 13.5 hits/gm .250 batters 5 AB/game = 45 AB = 11.25 hits/gm So on avg a team loaded with all .300 hitters will only outhit a team of all .250 hitters by an avg of 2.25 hits/gm What would the line be on this matchup? -300??? for only 2 more hits/game???? I know there's pitching and much more but still . . . makes me wanna bet dogs all yr next yr |

So many other factors involved its not even funny. My favorite stat for offensive productivity is OPS which measures the frequency of getting base with the addition of walks + slugging % (total bases/ab) which measures extra base hits ie 1b only worth 1.00 and a homer worth 4.00.
Teams who slap singles around the park will have high BA's but will have difficulty scoring runs as opposed to the team who is able to draw walks and hit for power. :peace:
