Back from Keenland with a question

Went to Keenland and am in love for the 10,000th time that day. The women there are unbelieveable........ I hit a trifecta that day that had a 4-5 win, 10-1 for second and a 46-1 for third...I believe there was 10 or 11 horses in the field. What do you think the payoff would have been? Well, a $2 paid $240 or something like that...I would have thought that it would have been $500 or more........Wrong..........Anybody know how it's figured or why it was so low? Oh, I don't know if anybody remembers me giving out the horse a week ago. but I went to Keenland with that guy Sunday. On the way down, he called Jorge Chavez and Gary Stevens on their cell phones.......I was in awe.............

WildKat...the payout for a trifecta is done in pretty much the same manner as any other exotic wager, keeping in mind that the odds on a horse are strictly to win odds and nothing else. The actual payout is based on how many people bet that particular one. To give a simple example, if there was 1,000 in the pool and 4 winning tickets, the payout would be about $250. If there were 10 winning tickets it would be $100 and so on. But I wouldnt complain about a $240 winner with a 4-5 on top. Im sure many people keyed that horse on top and then used longshots underneath. Now if one of the longshots had won the race with the same 3 horses finishing in top 3, the payout would have been much larger of course since not as many tickets wopuld have had the combo with the longshot winning. Hope that helps answer your question
