Shoemaker died in his sleep Sunday at his suburban home near Santa Anita racetrack, according to longtime friend and trainer Paddy Gallagher. He was 72.
Gallagher, an assistant during Shoemaker's training career that ended in 1997, said doctors told him Shoemaker died of natural causes. Shoemaker, who won the Kentucky Derby four times, had been a quadriplegic since 1991.

9 Days until Breeders Cup
Didn't know if Azeri was going to run against with fillies or move up and take on the boys. She was supposed to run with fillies, but they said if the streak ended (and it did) she might try the boys. Anyone heard or care?

ROCKY, the owner doesn't have to declare until next Weds. All indications are they'll go with the Distaff. The smaller field makes the race alittle less attractive for the betters, but I'd rather see Azeri run against Sightseek and Lady Take Charge anyway.------ I like Sightseek to win. I'm going to the BC, so any posts will be most welcomed.---Buster

I hope you get TVG, they are having some awesome programs with insight to the BC. Their show "The Works" shows workouts of the BC horses and it shows how they were ridden to achieve their times. Interesting stuff. Hopefully I'll get to an offtrack place in Denver to place my wagers before going to watch OU kick the crap out of Colorado Saturday!
