Mysterious Illness Claims With a City

GI Kentucky Derby hopeful With a City (City Zip) was euthanized Sunday morning after a three-day battle with a mysterious illness. The three-year-old first showed signs of the illness Thursday, including diarrhea, and was transported to Hagyard Equine Medical Institute on Friday. There, his condition began to deteriorate and he began to suffer from seizures. Veterinarians were unable to stabilize the colt, and the decision was made yesterday to put him down. According to trainer Mike Maker, the cause of the illness has not yet been discovered. “He was absolutely a picture of health one minute and gone the next,” Maker said. “They treated him for everything and ran tests on everything. They just don’t know at this time. Hopefully, a necropsy will tell us more, but their feeling right now is that they’re not so sure they’re going to be able to tell.” Owned by Ron Peltz’s Equirace.com, With a City posted a 49-1 upset when taking the GII Lane’s End S. at Turfway Mar. 25. Overall, he had a record of 13-4-0-2 and earned $359,680.

World class horses have their own caretaker and security 24 hrs a day.
They are certainly pampered in everyway imaginable.
