Dr Jack

I read a reply to my thread that there was a contest once where a cap or t-shirt was put up as a prize. Any chance of doing that again? I would start one if possible.

Sorry Rocket. I did not see this. Man we tried to get this horse forum going but unfortunately contests did not do it. We ran several. I am not opposed to giving a way shirts but I would like to see some people participate in here! lol - Ideas?

We had some Triple Crown contests in here that had a pretty good response. But our last contest, a daily double contest, had only a few entrants so I think they are hesitant to do any more of them in this forum.

Wow, I didn't see you response Dr. Jack...sorry for answering in your thread.

There is that bet called the place pick all. How about a contest where you try to pick the most horses to place out of say 3 race cards.

Or a rolling pick 3 contest. You get to pick 3 picks threes out of 3 races cards. Anyone u want, you get to pick 3 horses in each race. Whoever ends up with the most money at the end wins.

I'm not sure how many tracks have pick 4s. But you could give a $100 bankroll to try to hit the pick 4 at any one of 3 different tracks. The one with the most money wins. Two people could hit a pick 4 but one might have it for $2 and one might have it for one etc.

Anyway just a few ideas.

Guys, we have tried running a bunch of contest in here....Some of the contest we tried were the Daily Double Contest, Longshot of the day contest, Across the board contest and then we had the Triple Crown and Kentucky Derby Contest...We also tried an eliminator contest which is wildly popular on most track sites...The Derby and TC contest were the biggest draws while the others drew a smattering response....Now I understand not every contest is for every player but the turnout and partcipation in the horse forum were pretty weak in those contest...We got our regular core of players who mostly were the horse forum participants and every now and then got 1 or 2 new people to play in the contest....As Jack points out the goal in having these contest is to have participation in the forums from the people who are playing in these contest....

While the forum does have a little more life than it did around the holidays it is still probably the least particpated forum on the site....To try to run contest and have less than 10 people play isnt alot of fun and not really worth the time and effort....The eliminator contest was the final nail for me...I thought for sure we would get a big turnout for that one and I believe we had 7 players enter that contest....I wanted at least 10 for that contest or I was going to cancel it...After only getting 7 I decicded to still run the contest since it wouldnt be fair to the people who signed up...As I said, I was really disappointed with that turnout and it thats when I realized once and for all that the contest werent going to generate the forum participation that Jack was looking for...We can have a contest for tshirts and caps everyday in here but with the same group of guys playing in those contest it will get pretty boring real quick....

If anyone wants me to run a contest I have no hesitation in doing so but I dont want to keep running the contest with the same people everytime...I would love for the contest to generate the turnout of the TC and Derby but I dont think that will happen until we have a BC day contest...I am open for any and all ideas!!!!

why does a moderator have to be the one to run a horse contest and decide that its not worth the effort or time?? can;t a member-non moderator / run a fun only contest maybe winner get no prize but could get the rights as say cappersmall horsecapper of the week and give us horsecappers a little fun even if it is only a few here/Moderator will not have to worried or spend any time doing it/
DR JACK will this be o/k with you ??I am in a weekend contest where thats is only 6 or 7 same players but the mod.there keep the contest going and us few players is having fun ...just seeing how well we do against each others.... ....

Ther's around 12 of us at one I'm in (varies by day)
It gives 10 points for picking winner
6 if pick winds up 2nd
3 if pick winds up 3rd
I may be patial to it bacause I'm in 2nd 4 points back. It runs Mon-Fri
It's fun
Can we have a poll to see if anybody would be interested in something like this. That way if no interest is shown no harm done

Joe, What bambino is saying is that it does not pay for the forum to give away prizes to a group of 5-7 people over and over again. WE could just give you prizes for being nice guys! lol. Guys - don't be annoyed with Jon - he was just being very honest!

As far as contests for bragging rights - Feel free to do this anytime you want!

Rocket, Go ahead and run one for tomorrow or Sunday and I will give a t-shirt, no problem. But what you have to understand - is the goal of contests - is to get more regular posters so the same three are not talking to only each other.

BigD - If you have ways of getting more people in the horse forum - Jon and I are all for it!!!

You guys are awesome! You are always posting in here and giving this place the slow steady heartbeat that is, the cappersmall horse forum. You are very much appreciated and we love that you take the time to keep posting your plays. We wouldn't have it any other way.

However, I would not feel right if I did not comment on this.

Jon has done nothing but bust his butt to try and breath life into the horse forum. The insinuation that he doesn’t want to spend the time is just not fair! He did more for the horse forum in a month then this place has seen in years. I feel for the guy, as he took it upon himself to try and revive this place and see if he could get it going. In no way should we point the finger at Jon. He has done what he could but the participation just wasn't there. Don't single out the moderator, when it is lack of member support that fails to light the fire in here.

I for one would like to thank Jon for all of his help in trying to do everything he could to try and get this place going.

Sorry I am done now.
