Fair Grounds pick 4

Some early thoughts on todays pick 4 at the Fair Grounds....

Race 6...A fairly wide open race and being the first leg, I will probably have more selections here than any of the other legs hoping to maybe get a longshot winner right off the bat. #12 Dyna Da Wyna 3-1 is the likely favorite and will definitely be included along with the #1A Speedy Sonata 9-2. My other early leans right now are #4 Our Love 15-1, #5 Mocha Queen 6-1, #6 Tara's Touch 8-1, #9 Black Escort 6-1 and #11 Shaunavon 5-1. I will probably go 5 or 6 deep in this first leg.

Race 7...#3 Punch Appeal 6-5 is the obvious choice here having won 6 out of 9 races this past year as a 2 year old, including 5 stakes races. 2 of her 3 losses have been in Grade 2 races. #6 Enduring Will 5-2 is comming off an impressive 10 length victory at Lone Star in a $100K stakes race there on Oct 10th. Has had 6 workouts at Fair Grounds since then and could be up for the challenge today. #1 Chubbs Last Call 6-1 and #5 The Beter Man Can 8-1 both won their last time out over this track and should also be considered. The latter is stretching out to a mile after 4 sprints to start her career and she had a decent 7 furlong work on Jan 9th in preperation for today. Will probably only use 2 in this leg, but may add a third.

Race 8...Another wide open race where any of 6 horses I feel have a good chance. The morning line favorite is #2 Honor in War 5-2. After winning 7 of his first 17 races, he went winless in 2004. Has not raced since Nov. 21 and has fared well in the past comming in off a layoff, so has to be considered. #3 Colorful Judgement 8-1, shipping in from Woodbine, is one I really like here. His last race on Oct 24th was against Grade 1 company and he finished 8th, 22 lengths back, but throw that race out and he has been in the money 9 of his other 11 races lifetime, including a win and a second in Grade 2 races the 2 previous times out. He has had 5 workouts at Fair Grounds, including a bullet work last Saturday in preperation for today.Larry Melancon, one of the leading turf riders around gets the mount which is also a plus. #7 Candid Glen 4-1 has won 3 times over the Fair Grounds turf, including a Grade 2 victory early last year. Others to consider are #4 America Alive 8-1,#6 Northern Scene 15-1, and #10 Justlikedawg 5-1.

Race 9...#6 Storm Surge 8-5 will be the favorite here, but #4 Biloxi Palace 7-2 , who has won his last 2 over the Fair Grounds track is definitely one to watch. Other possibles here are #2 Kansas City Boy 3-1 and #5 Smooth Bid 6-1.

My early lean right now is....

1,4,6,9,11/3,6/2,3,7/4,6 total cost for $1 pick 4 is $60
