Gouda's Belmont Blues

Okay, I'm not a horse capper, but you gotta have action on the Belmont, right?

$2 Giacomo to Win
$2 Indy Storm to Win
$2 Pinpoint to Win
$2 Afleet Alex to Win
$2 Chekhov to Win
$2 Reverberate to Win
$2 Giacomo, Indy Storm, Afleet Alex Trifecta
$6 Exacta Box: Afleet Alex Key with Giacomo, Reverberate, and Chekhov

Why not?

The odds of a horse showing depends on the race.
If there are 10 horses in the race, only 3 can show, thus 3/10.
If there are 15 horses in the race, it is 3/15.

If you are asking how much a horse pays to show....that is hard to say because horse racing is parimutual betting. Meaning it all depends how much is in the pot and how many tickets there are.

Since only 3 horses can show (excluding entries and deadheats), you look at the total SHOW pool and divide that by 3. If a horse shows, one third of the SHOW pool is assigned to that horse. Then you look at how much money was wagered on that horse and then split the pool evenly.

Let say there is $30,000 in the show pool, therefore, each horse that showed gets to split $10,000 with its backers. If there are $1000 bet on that particular horse to show, then each $1 brings back $10. That's just a simplistic way to explain it. Actual payouts will be slightly lowered because the track has to take its cut from the pool etc.

Its like a $10M lottery. If there is only one winning ticket, you get the $10M. If there are 2 winning tickets, then each ticket will fetch $5M a piece and so on.
