I don't have a link, but I will give you the basics........ "place" means when a horse finishes in second place. "Show" means the horse finishes in third place. The odds are set by a person working for the track usually a day or two before the actual race...This is referred to as "the morning line" odds. After that line has been made, the public will determine if the odds stay at what was originally assigned to that horse. For example, if a horse was given odds of 4-1 opening line and nobody bet on the horse the horses odds would go up to 99-1. It works the other way as well, if a horse opens 99-1 and everyone bets it for whatever reason, it is going to make the odds drop way down. If you want to know what you would win for a $2 bet...just double the odds of whatever your horse goes off at and then add on your $2. For example, if you have a horse that is 8-1...just double the odds...16 and add your two bucks that you wagered on the horse......That's kinda the basics of betting.....if you think of any specifics just ask, you have some real helpful guys in this forum that would be glad to help.

He would have to win. If you picked him to "show" or come in 3rd, then he could win the race or come in second, but you would only receive "show" or 3rd place money.
