Horse Racing Betting: The Breeder’s Cup
The 27th running of the Breeder's Cup will be run at Churchill Downs in Kentucky on November 5th and 6th. This will be the 7th time the Kentucky track has hosted the event and 4 states, New York, California, Kentucky and Florida hosted all but 4 of the 27 races. The only exceptions were Arlington racetrack in 2002, Lone Star in 2004, Monmouth in 2007 and Woodbine racetrack in 1996. The latter was the only event run outside of the United States.
The Breeder's Cup has been dubbed as the thoroughbred horse racing world championships and rightly so. The best horses, owners and trainers from around the globe enter the races and in the main Breeder's Cup Turf event more than half of the winners have come from outside of the U.S. In fact when all the turf races are combined, more than 1/3 of the winners have come from Europe. But horses from countries outside the U.S. have had success on dirt as well. Arazi, which came over from France raised eyebrows when he romped to victory in the 1991 Juvenile; Dance Smartly from Canada won as a 2/5 favourite in the 1991 Distaff (now called Ladies' Classic); and Raven's Pass beat another European invader Henrythenavigator to win the 2008 Breeder's Cup Classic. As well, to this date Arcangues, a French horse, still holds the record as the only horse over 100/1 to win a Breeder's Cup race when he took the 1993 Classic.
