Lis Mara Qualifies in 1:49.1

Lis Mara Qualifies In 1:49.1!

April 19, 2007

Prepping for his five-year-old debut, Lis Mara scorched the Meadowlands oval today, recording the fastest qualifier in harness racing history with a blistering 1:49.1 mile.

The mile was also the only sub-1:50 qualifier performance in harness racing history. The previous record for fastest qualifier (1:50.2) was co-held by Western Ideal (2000 at Mohawk Racetrack) and P Forty Seven (2006 at the Meadowlands).

The Erv Miller-trained son of Cambest left from Post 5 with driver Brian Sears and sat second at the :28.1 quarter pole. The career winner of over $1.26-million was on top by the :55.3 half-mile pole and blew by the three-quarters marker in 1:23-flat.

After holding a six-length lead in the stretch, Lis Mara went on to post a 10 and three-quarter length victory after coming home with a sizzling :26.1 final frame.

MJG Racing Stables Inc. and Louis Willinger own Lis Mara, who is being pointed towards making his seasonal debut on May 5 at the Meadowlands in the second leg of The Classic Series.

In addition to Lis Mara being on track, 2006 Pepsi North America Cup winner Total Truth was also in action, putting in his first charted line of the year.

Perfect Union and Western Ace also performed during the qualifying session.
