Smooth- I typically will play a "long shot" WPS with more money given to the Place and Show bets. Say $2 win $3 place $5 show for example.
Until I get sucked into exacta and tri wagering, I tend to have good success with this method. |

I hear you on that... I have gotten myself to stay away from trifectas with a few rare exceptions... although I do like to use long shots underneath my win picks; generally anything I like that is 9-2 or higher I will take a shot at WP or WPS (depending on how strong I feel the chalk is since I hate seeing a show ticket on a bomb return 2.10).
Lately I have been focusing on horses I feel can win regardless of odds; generally they need to meet 2 or more of my stronger angles and have a field that does not have any other strong qualifiers... then I run some homemade numbers on the race and if the horse is tops in most of those categories as well, I play it. Generally you see $3-$6 winners from this method (with the exception of that 48.00 winner the other week). -smooth |
