An Early Thought . . .
Trifecta Box - Purge / Lion Heart / Eddington

I'm a little nervous about Eddington's pace in long races but I think he may have the goods.

Anyone have any feelings on Birdstone being back in Saratoga and all???

Tough race with most of them having taked considerable time off since the Triple Crown races with a few exceptions. I'll take a shot for fun, but not sure I would bet this race myself. However if someone were to hand me $20, this is what I would do with it:

3 Purge (Hard to deny off of that Jim Dandy win, despite a very speed favoring surface that day)
2 Lion Heart (seems to be running out of gas at the distances over 9 furlongs)
4 Sir Shackleton (Underrated and improving, could still be getting better here)
1 Eddington

For that $20:

$1 Ex 3 over 1,2,4
$1 Ex 1,2,4 over 3
$1 Tri 3 with 1,2,4 with 1,2,4
$1 Tri 1,2,4 with 3 with 1,2,4
$2 Win 3

Good Luck!

Question Travers

Everyone is over looking Birdstone. He's only lost three races in his entire career. Hit the gate and five wide in the Hopeful last year at Sara. Steadied twice in the Lanes End. And Steadied and shuffled early in the Ken. Derby. He's one every other race. Including two grade I stakes. Lion Heart is the only other horse in the race that can claim that. Cliff's edge has one grade one. If Birdstone can stay out of trouble?????? He runs great off of a layoff. I just hope I can get a price????

One of my "rules of thumb" is never bet against a horse who has not lost on that surface. Gulch Approval is 3 for 3 on the turf!!!!!!!!!! Nothing else need be said.

I have been going to Saratoga for over 30 years now and one of my best rules for cashing in tickets is the "Horses for Courses" rules. I have never seen it work so well at any other track. With that in mind I have to use Purge and The Cliffs Edge with Birdstone.

track bias

Not many races have been 1¼ at this track.
The track bias for a fast track at this distance favors the Wire 67% Stalker 28% Rally 6%
With that being said.

#2 Lion Heart

Oh yea, did I mention that the #2 post wins 19% of the time at the distance?
