Roughie lands betting plunge

HORSE RACING
William Hill were nearly knocked for six today with a massive gamble on Exponential in the 2.45 at Nottingham today as S William's charge was unbelievably punted down from 100-1 to 8-1. After Exponential scooted home, Hills PR Director David Hood said, "This gamble took out over £100,000 for us, (estimated to be over £1/2 Million industry wide), but our liabilities would have been considerably more had we not managed the gamble so effectively."

"While SIS was still showing 100-1 and the phones were ringing with punters wanting £100 / £200 each way - not a normal betting pattern for a maiden auction - our rep on course informed us that the 100-1 had disappeared and the current market showed only 33-1 and 25-1 in places. Therefore we restricted the stakes of those wanting the 100-1 and are lucky to have escaped with only a 6 figure payout."

UK's popular Racing Post labelled the horse as 'useless' in it's Monday formguide. The horse was traded from 260-1 into 9-1 on betting exchange Betfair.
