Tailgating at Horse races??

You got it!! I went to Keenland today from Indianapolis and to my suprise there were thousands of people tailgating. They were grilling out and playing corn-hole. We all know how a game of cornhole will help in the handicapping of the ponies. I have not been out West to any of the tracks, but the people of Lexington dress to the T when it comes to showing up at Keenland. I have been to Churchill hundreds of times, but it was nothing compared to what I had seen there. I had dresses casual and you would have thought I was a bum. We were not in the elite section at Keenland either. On the drive back to Indy, I stopped off at Churchill Downs to take my friend to the Ky Derby Museum. Yours truely is actually in the 360 degree movie that they present. If anyone can give some info about the attire worn at other tracks, I would appreciate some feedback. I have seen Keenland, Churchill, Turfway, Ellis, Hoosier Park, Indiana Downs..........Go to Keenland is all I can say, nothing beats it in the fall.

WildKat..The wife and I are going to Keeneland on the 27th and looking forward to it. A friend of mine from California who has been a horse fan for years told me it was much better than Churchill also. We have been to the same tracks that you mentioned except for Keeneland and Indiana Downs. We go to Hoosier Park mostly since its closest to us. And before you ask, we are in Terre Haute...

Dude, I cannot speak for what is going to happen the weekend that you are there, but if it's anything like what I experienced..you'll be in for a treat. 75 and sunny was the temp for the day. You could not have asked for the weather to be anything better than what it was. I am assuming that you are driving down there, there is a bypass road that runs around Keenland that shows off some of there horse farms. It is about a 10 mile stretch that is beautiful. I took about 100 pics of the barns and of the horses. I recommend that you take that tour.

I love monmouth park, due to the fact you can bring your own beer/wine/alcohol... into the track... in addition you can also bring your own charcoal grill on grill out inside the track.. so the tailgating is an all day affair inside the actual track and not in the parking lot... best of both worlds...

trader.
