Triple Crown horse?...

I was driving home from work tonight after the race( was able to watch it at work), and listening to the post race news conference on ESPN and could not believe the questions I was hearing. How did you get this horse here from New Mexico? Who is your assistant trainer? When the trainer answered his older brother, one of the next questions was how old is your brother? Who the hell was asking these questions!!! I am not even a reporter and I can come up with better questions than that. I kept saying to myself, someone ask him about a possible triple crown. Did he prepare this horse for a possible triple crown run or just for the Derby? Mine That Bird is by Birdstone, who won the Belmont beating Smarty Jones, so the pedigree is there for the 1 1/2 mile Belmont distance and the way he looked today, who knows.

I could almost bet this horse doesn't finish in the top 5 at Belmont... you never know though.

Good pedigree means a lot... just wish SOMEBODY WOULD HAVE TOLD ME THIS BEFORE THE RACE

Agreed, any other jockey on him and probably wouldn't have won...

horse freaked in the slop, trainer himself said he would have been happy to have hit the board. time was subpar and three of the best three year olds missed the race. they ain't sitting on no superstar here. no way horse wins triple crown-no way. 5000-1 as far as im concerned

First off, we don't know who the best 3 year olds are yet, the season has just begun. Friesan Fire was the favorite and finished next to last. Most thought he was the best horse today and look what happen. And secondly, I am guessing that your feelings about this horse before this race was..." No way this horse wins this race, no way". Anything can happen my friend...

I guess the point I was trying to make was, What do we really know about this horse and trainer? I'd like to know a little more than what I can read in the PP's about them before the Preakness. I mean this guy probably wasn't even thinking about the Preakness until this happened. They lucked into the Derby and he probably said we'll run in this, have some fun and then go home and see what happens. Now he has to get this horse ready for another big race in 2 weeks. Is he even capable of turning a horse around that just won the Derby and have him ready 2 weeks later? Let's face it, the horse has ability, he just proved that. Whether it was a fluke or not, he just easily beat some of the best 3 year olds in the country. Odds are he will bounce after the best race of his life comming back just 2 weeks later. But, maybe this horse is special, and his trainer knows more than we think. If I was a repoter after that race, I would have been asking some of these questions, not " How old is your brother?"

I totally understand what you are saying here Wabash. The thing is I would say most of those reporters cover horse racing about 4 days a year max, they would be absolutely clueless as to what questions to ask. Its along the same lines of why I absolutely hate going to OTB on the day of a triple crown race. Too many idiots that have no clue what they are doing
