smooth, based on your card, how do you play? I am following at philly. do you just do WP on the top two horses from your card or what.

Thanks for the info. I am new to horse betting, but I am enjoying it.

gt,

Thanks for the interest! Generally when I am at the track and have time to kill between my major plays, this is what I do with the full card plays.

Play the doubles - with the top two in each leg (4 combinations)
Play each top choice to either W or WP (depends on odds)
Play an exacta 1-2,3,4 and sometimes 2,3,4-1 (# representing my choice as top pick, second, etc.)

I generally only do this when I am at the track watching it live, not every day they run... most days I am playing via my computer from work and really don't have that kind of time to do it.

The Meadowlands offers a Pick 4, which I play a couple of nights a week... I have just started posting my plays on here this meet, but have had pretty good success with it on minimal ($36 and under $1 P4 tickets).

I hope this helps & Good Luck!

I apreciate the info. I am mostly betting from work myself, and just check in at equibase thoughout the day.

On the exactas, is that an exacta box 1,2/1,2 (4 choices) or extended 1,2/1,2,3,4?

What is the odds cutoff you generally use to not bother with place or show?

Thanks again for helping me out.

gt,

I generally key the exactas 1 over 2,3,4 and sometimes back them up with 2,3,4 over 1... I rarely box an exacta unless the top three horses are so close in my mind that it warrants all three for the top spot.

WPS - This really depends on the field.... if I feel that the favorite is a 'false favorite', I may figure he won't even hit the board in some cases... but rule of thumb for blindly playing what is posted without knowing the posters intentions... I would go W on a horse that generally 7-2 and under, WP on 4-1 to 6-1, WPS on 6-1 or greater... but each race is different and you really need to go by post time odds. I base the amount I wager generally on how strong the angle/figure(s) are on that horse versus the field... for example my Wednesday horse at BM I gave a 75% chance of winning that race (or an odds of 1-3... he won .7-1 or 2.1-3 so I doubled my threshold of expectancy.... if that makes any sense... figuring I would take .33 to 1)

I hope this helps... please feel free to ask me any questions you want... I remember all the questions I had when I started out with horse racing 15 years ago!

Good Luck!
