If the outside post doesnt kill him, I like Yankee Mon alot also. This horse came back after a 1 year layoff in an allowance race Dec 8th going against the ML favorite of todays race, Warrior Within, and went off at lower odds in that race( Yankee Mon was 5-2 and Warrior Within was 4-1). Yankee Mon was no factor in that race as Warrior Within won easily. On Dec 30 the 2 horses met again in the Holiday Cheer stakes, Warrior Within went off at 5-1 and Yankee Mon went off at 25-1. They finished 5th and 6th respectively seperated by a mere 3/4 of a length. Yankee Mon, whos beyer was 54 in his return after the year layoff, jumped to 80 his 2nd time out. The key here being that this horse in 05 was running beyers in the 90's and 100's consistently before taking the extended layoff. And in preperation for the stretchout to todays mile after 2 sprints(another key angle I like, although Warrior Within is doing the same) Yankee Mon breezed 5 furlongs last Saturday in a bullet 59.2 seconds. I think he is rounding back into the form he had in 05 and if he improves like I think he will and runs a beyer in the 90s, it should be good enough to win here at a decent price. Lets just hope Im right, lol...
