THE ART AND SCIENCE OF PICKING GOLF WINNERS
1. CLOSER with CHARACTER. Certain guys see the finish line and cross it and others are destined for second place.
2. RELAXED CONFIDENCE, FOCUS and a HUNGER to win. It's a mental game and their mind has to be in the right frame with a determination and focus. As Harry Vardon said: "To play well you must feel tranquil and at peace. I have never been troubled by nerves in golf because I felt I had nothing to lose and everything to gain."
3. COURSE. Does the course layout favor the strengths of the golfer and does it expose their weaknesses. Previous form can change immediately for those who feel comfortable on a course and its greens.

in case you care, and I don't base anything I do on it

the wise guy picks so far JB Holmes, Brian Gay, Kevin Na and Brandt Snedeker.

This has to do with history here for Holmes and Na especially and Gay and Snedeker are playing well.
Na has two top fives the last two years. Holmes has won twice
gay was sixth last year and snedeker has one top 10

I said I like Holmes. Always reluctant to take guys like Gay unless it is a shorter course. NA comes across as mentally unstable. His mood changes by the minute. Can't handle pressure and he won't get one buck from me on betting to win until I see him mature. Good matchup guy though.

Good value and worth the risk.
that's the highest price I have seen with calnevada for Zach.
Rooting against you Bobby. Waiting on him for Verizon or Quail Hollow and maybe Bay Hill.

Another thing in Phil's favor this week. I like that he is playing with Ian Poulter the first two days. He is the it golfer this week and the man on top of the totem pole getting all the attention. That should further push Phil to do well.

http://www.pgatour.com/2010/tourname...son/index.html

As for the course, they overseeded it and they had a lot of rain there and with cooler weather they have been having, the ball isn't carrying as far. This plays to longer hitters more than normal this week, according to players interviewed.

Also, if you see any good golfer matched against Kenny Perry bet against him. I like Zach Johnson over him. Perry is in pain with his elbow. He doesn't want to be there but has to as defending champion. He has lost 10 yards off the tee because of it. Definite bet again. May not make the cut.

Zach Johnson -110
Kenny Perry -110

Outrights: (5-4) +16.1 units
Tourney Matchups: (5-5) +1.65 units

Waste Management Tourney Matchups
1* Brian Gay -115 over Kenny Perry
1* JB Holmes -115 over Ian Poulter
1* Phil Mickelson -165 over Geoff Ogilvy (1 unit to win .6)

Brian Gay has had a great start to the year and should have added confidence knocking out Perry and Johnson last week. He has recent success at Scottsdale and I think another top 20 is likely. Not sure where Perry's mind is right now. He's had a very difficult time in his personal life this last year and has played very little golf as of late. Looked terrible in his quick showing at Accenture. Getting fair odds here because Kenny is defending champ.

JB Holmes should be licking his chops. Two time winner and two time MC in the last 4 years here. Holmes looks like he has regained form after a terrible showing last year. Putting better than ever which should allow him to score here. Poulter coming off a huge win and a 1.5 million dollar cash prize he's been swimming in all week. Ian making his 1st appearance at Scottsdale. Just think he makes an average showing this week.

Tons of factors pointing to why Phil will be huge this week. Bigbuck has mentioned lots of them.

Like Anthony Kim to get a victory. He's at +600 currently. Deciding if I'm going to pull the trigger now or wait and see how things unfold after tomorrow. I generally wait til 3 rounds are completed to play an outright.

Good luck Weazel. If anybody liked Phil, this was the weekend to jump on him. You could have had him last night at 22 to 1. he is teeing off now so those with active lines on the european books can bet him. I think he is close.
