Actually this isn't a bad idea at all. Another suggestion is eliminate week 17 and run it through the playoffs with only one pick per week being required.

Get that fucking Birdie in this thing. Tell him he can bet stale and even bad lines sometimes.

I've mentioned it a few times, but don't want "1" to boot me from that place.

Even better. The Superbowl is the climax. Instead of week 17.

Err....

Err....

I like the idea as well but already have taken entries with rules written. I am hesitant making a big change like that. This year we did make a big change with the Thursday night game and later odds. Maybe next year we do this. It is a valid point. I like the idea of maybe only one game in week 17 or 1-3 games and including the playoffs and Super Bowl. I really wouldn't be comfortable making the change unless every paid entry agreed without one dissenting and not sure that would happen. I think most people appreciate that we don't change rules once contest opened. I do like it though

Cool Jack.

You could put up a special notice.

"Dear NFL pick 5 players. We are seriously considering replacing the not-very-popular week 17 with five picks spread out over the playoffs (wildcard - divisional - conference - superbowl weekends). In this format players would have to make at least one pick for each of the four playoffs weeks, so that the outcome of the contest would coincide with the Superbowl. Players could add the 5th pick in whatever playoff week they prefer.

If you have already signed up for the contest, we want to honor the fact that you did so under the rules that were in place, so if anyone has an objection to replacing week 17 with the playoffs, please let us known. Thank you."

Okay fair enough. I will consider this today and post it tomorrow if we go that way and we will go from there. Although I would like to still have at least one pick on week 17 and then 5 more so I will put up the question this way.

I want people to know they can let me know privately (without fear of backlash) and if that happens we will just leave as is.

I wouldn't even consider if contest started. But at same time I am a little hesitant because of opening pandoras box with other changes or opinions on how else we should do this. At that point we'd never get everyone to agree.

I do think this makes sense though so definitely considering putting up the question

Probably would be easier to just do it next year, because there are plenty of ways to be creative about this.

The temptation would be to get 'creative'. But the simplest approach would be better. It's just to replace five picks in mostly meaningless games with five picks in meaningful games. With the obvious advantage that the contest would cover the playoffs.

I would make it as flexible as possible, because the number of games in the playoffs is only eleven. So you could say 'Superbowl pick plus four more playoff picks. Flexibility would make it more interesting for the contest, because some players may enter four picks in the first weekend... So the strategy aspect could get very real very quick. Others may wait to put their cards on the table. The playoff part of the contest could take on a poker aspect.

Judging by the different opinions I already received and no consensus I am going to leave as is for this year and give it serious consideration for next year. I think a year will give us a lot of time for the best option moving forward

Week 17 is mostly like the pre-season and you have to take a different approach. Who's playing for job next year what coaches like to win the last game going into the off-season. The QB rotation etc: IMO the regular season includes week 17.

PS: I won't be getting into the Pro's this year so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The other problem with using week 17 is that the leaders are going to simply select the games with line moves up to a touchdown. These contests really aren't handicapping based as long as that type of scenario exists to exploit.

Large line moves during the playoffs are rare...especially since there wouldn't be any need to post lines until one day prior. The deadline should be long before kickoff so there's at least some risk with playing stale #'s because they can reverse, but that's already been discussed here and vetoed.

I say don't change a thing, we have a traditional format that all the big contests follow why deviate from that now ? Week 17 being a crapshoot is sometimes part of an NFL season and requires some out of the box thinking for our purposes. Players playing the big moves in this week probably deserve that luxury simply by being in a position to have that option available to them. We can't be crying at the end because the leader(s) in a better spot to block the chasers, they earned the right. If you don't want to be the chaser try and be in the lead at that point simple as that. It's too late now to change the rules anyways, maybe something for next year.

Some bitch got my Willy Twitter handle suspended. I don't know if it was because I called her a cunt or insulted her stupid team, the Vikings. Anybody have a extra handle I can use?

Guys, Please bare with me as we have no power but all safe. I will have the confirmed entries updated by later today or tomorrow the latest.

This week scoring will be done by Wednesday the latest (already started) and we will get back to normal starting in week two.

I appreciate everyone's well wishes by text, email, PM and posts.

FYI, I am personally scoring this contest this year. I will post a few reminders in the week two thread so that we can make things run as smoothly as possible.

Just FYI
