agree 100% on Granderson

as a Met fan as much as i hate to admit it Granderson is a class act

as far as Verlander I have a hard time giving MVP to a player who isn't on the field every day. I'm pretty sure if you go back and look that Granderson has won more than 24 games with his 41 hrs and 119 rbis

Bautista plays for the wrong team or he would be neck and neck with Grandy

Bautistas second half of the season and not playing for a contender is going to hurt him but mostly how down his second half of the year was is what will cost him in the end IMO.

My personal vote would be for Granderson.

You've concluded that I smoke crack cause I think granderson is MVP?

Considering Bautista hits .250 with RISP and .315 otherwise might be a bigger factor as to why those stats aren't as good

just sayin

I somewhat agree with this, but what's the difference between 4 plate appearances a game for a hitter, or 20 plate appearances every 5th game for a pitcher?

I know that excludes defense but who votes based on that anyway?

Because one will be involved in determining the outcome for 150+ games compared to the other one whos only involved in approximately 32 of them. As demanding as being a starting pitcher is playing day in and day out as a position player and doing it at such a high level for 6 months straight to me means more and doing it with that much success.

As far as I am concerned the pitcher has an award the Cy Young and should be eliminated from MVP consideration

I agree with you guys for the most part -

They should change the name of the award if that is the case.

Cause which player is more valuable to their team - if you take granderson off the yankees, and verlander off the tigers, which team loses the most wins?

using that logic, verlander is probably more valuable to the tigers than granderson is to the yankees.

but he is a pitcher, and doesn't play everyday, so i went with granderson.

However, there are exceptions i think when a pitcher has a year that's really, really good. Verlander may be bordering on that, but isn't quite there. Remember 2000 or 2001, when Pedro had that ridiculous year, like a 0.75 whip,1.70 era for the sox, he should have won the mvp that year, but finished 5th, behind 4 AL sluggers that hit over 40 homers lol - making what he did even more impressive imo

The award is called Most Valuable Player. That without question is Justin Verlander.
Granderson is having a great year but is a product of where he hits in his order, the players around him in that order, and the tiny dimensions of his home ball park. The Yankees would be in the playoffs without Granderson, where as Detroit may be a sub .500 team without Verlander.

I don't buy into that "pitchers have their own awards". Most valuable player is ANY player, not just a hitter. American league hitters get their own awards that Verlander cannot get called silver sluggers. Any vote not for Verlander is questionable.

Take Verlanders starts out of the Tigers lineup and they would have a record of 84-72(Tigers win 53% of games not started by Verlander), that would still give them a 6.5 game lead. Take Granderson out of the Yanks lineup and they don't have a 7 game lead right now.

Verlander has had a great year IMO but I still feel that playing day in and day out for 6 months straight and coming up with those numbers gives a position players numbers are more impressive.

Heck I would even say that Kershaw would have more of a case for the MVP than Verlander, with Kershaw the Dodgers are 1 game above .500, take him out of their rotation and they are 13 games below .500 but again on a non playoff team it really doesn't make a difference.

FYI Verlander has been involved in more plate appearances than Curtis Granderson.

A pitcher might pitch once every 5 days but he impacts the game tons more than anyone on the field.

While I think Granderson is MVP worthy I do believe his numbers are inflated by his team & park.

Best pitcher is Verlander (Cy Young)
Best hitter is Bautista (no award that I know of besides silver slugger)
Best player is also Verlander (MVP).

Bautista will lose credibility because his team isn't in contention and Verlander will lose votes because he is a pitcher.

Problem with the Yankees and Red Sox is they will pull from each other (Ellsbury/Gonzo?Pedroia) & (Granderson/Texeira/Cano).

It will be an interesting result.
