I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

American
Clay Buchholz-RHP-Boston Red Sox

Buchholz won't be playing in the All Star Game because he is currently on the DL But he certainly earned his spot. For the season Buchholz is 10-4 with a 2.45 ERA as he has allowed 77 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 64 in 92 innings of work.

Trevor Cahill-RHP-Oakland Athletics

There wasn't much on Cahill's resume that suggested he would have the season he is having but the Athletics will take it. Cahill is 9-3 with a 2.94 ERA and he has allowed 70 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 63 in 95 innings of work.

Fausto Carmona-RHP-Cleveland Indians

Carmona is the best player on a bad team and has held up extremely well considering he faces the other team's best just about every time out and he brings little offensive ammo to the party. Carmoa is 8-7 with a 3.64 ERA and he has allowed 107 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 61 in 116 and a third innings of work.

Neftali Feliz-RHP-Texas Rangers

Feliz is the closer fr the West leading Rangers and he sees plenty of action as they have been ahead often when his time comes around. Feliz has 23 saves and has allowed 27 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 42 in 37 and two-thirds innings of work.

Phil Hughes-RHP-New York Yankees

Hard to even remember that Hughes had to battle it out in the Spring just to get the fifth starter role on the Yankees and now he's an All Star. Hughes is 11-2 with a 3.65 ERA and he has allowed 90 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 91 in 101 innings of work.

Cliff Lee-LHP-Texas Rangers

Lee earned this spot as a member of the Seattle Mariners but the way he has been throwing of late he would have earned it with no matter who he played with. Lee is 8-4 with a 2.64 ERA and he has allowed 101 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 91 in 112 and two-thirds innings. Lee has six complete games this year.

Jon Lester-LHP-Boston Red Sox

Lester went through a stretch this season where he was virtually unhittable and racked up some nice strike out numbers and even though he has returned to Earth, he is still a very worthy All Star. Lester is 11-3 with a 2.78 ERA and has allowed 87 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 124 in 120 innings on the bump.

Andy Pettitte-LHP-New York Yankees

I thought Pettitte could have easily been the starter as the future Hall of Famer is having the best year of his career. Pettitte is 11-2 with a 2.70 ERA allowing 95 hits and 34 earned runs while striking out 87 in 113 and third innings of work. Not a bad year and career for a former 22nd round draft choice.

David Price-LHP-Tampa Bay Rays

Price has been outstanding and has been named the American League starter. Price is 12-4 with a 2.42 ERA as he has allowed 95 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 100 in 115 and a third innings of work.

Mariano Rivera-RHP-New York Yankees

If the American League is in a situation to close it out or get out of a late jam, it will be Rivera, the most experienced pitcher on the staff who will be in the game to put a stop to it. For the season the future first ballot Hall of Famer has 20 saces and has allowed 16 hits and four earned runs while striking out 33 in 34 and a third innings of work.

C.C. Sabathia-LHP-New York Yankees

Sabathia is another of the long list of Yankee pitchers in this year's contest and the Cy Young Award winner is having another big year on the mound. Sabathia is 12-3 with a 3.09 ERA and he has allowed 108 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 104 in 131 innings of work.

Joakim Soria-RHP-Kansas City Royals

On a team with last year's Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke, it's Joakim Soria who makes it to the All Star Game. Soria has 25 saves and a 2.31 ERA as he has allowed 31 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 43 in 35 innings of work.

Matt Thornton-LHP-Chicago White Sox

Had the White Sox began their hot streak a few weeks earlier Thornton wouldn't be the only Chicago player on the team before Paul Konerko was added as a replacement but even so Thornton is deserving. Thornton has a 2.70 ERA allowing 26 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 49 in 36 and two-thirds innings of work.

Jose Valverde-RHP-Detroit Tigers

Valverde is part of the reason the Detroit Tigers bullpen has been so good this year which is part of why the Tigers themselves have had such a nice first half. Valverde has a 0.92 ERA and 19 saves as he has allowed 16 hits and four earned runs while striking out 36 in 39 innings of work.

Jered Weaver-RHP-Los Angeles Angels

It was pretty surprising when the home town pitcher and American League strikeout leader wasn't picked to be an All Star but is often the case with the near miss guys, Weaver made it as a replacement. Weaver is 8-5 with a 3.20 ERA as he has allowed 103 hits and 43 earned runs while striking out 137 in 121 innings of work.

National
Jonathan Broxton-RHP- Los Angeles Dodgers

Broxton enters the All Star game for his second time and is having another All Star season Broxton has 19 saves as he has struck out 55 batters working 38 and a third innings giving up 34 hits and nine earned runs.

Chris Carpenter-RHP-St. Louis Cardinals

The former Cy Young Award winner isn't quite having a Cy Young type of season but he has had an All Star season as the ace of one of baseball's best staffs. Carpenter has a 9-3 record with a 3.29 ERA allowing 118 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 108 in 125 and two-thirds innings of work.

Matt Capps-RHP-Washington Nationals

Capps makes his first All Star appearance and while his team's performance has tailed off of late hurting his numbers, Capps is still All Star worthy. For the season Capps has a 3.18 ERA and 23 saves as he has allowed 49 hits and just 14 earned runs while striking out 33 in 39 and two-thirds innings of work.

Yovani Gallardo-RHP-Milwaukee Brewers

While his team was struggling this season, Gallardo was excelling putting together a fine record and stat sheet. For the year Gallardo has an 8-4 record, a 2.58 ERA allowing 93 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 122 in 111 and two-thirds innings of work.

Roy Halladay-RHP-Philadelphia Phillies

Hallday has delivered all that was expected of him personally when the Phillies went out to get him and more by pitching a perfect game but it hasn't added up in the win column for the team. Halladay is just 10-7 despite having a 2.19 ERA allowing 137 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 128 in 148 innings of work.

Tim Hudson-RHP-Atlanta Braves

Hudson has to be a candidate for the Comeback Player of the Year and he's a big part of the Braves' success this season. Hudson is 9-4 with a 2.30 ERA as he has allowed 94 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 61 in 121 and a third innings on the hill this year.

Ubaldo Jimenez-RHP-Colorado Rockies

Jimenez has arguably been the best pitcher in all of baseball and though he slowed down a little as he closed in on the break, his numbers are pointing to a huge season. Jimenez is a staggering 15-1 with a 2.20 ERA as he has allowed 87 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 113 in 127 innings of work. Jimenez also has a no-hitter this season.

Josh Johnson-RHP-Florida Marlins

If Jimenez hasn't been the best pitcher this season, Johnson has as he is putting together numbers that put him on the all time lists with some of the Legends of the game. Johnson is 9-3 with a 1.70 ERA as he has allowed 89 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 123 in 122 innings of work.

Tim Lincecum-RHP-San Francisco Giants

The Cy Young Award winner has looked tired in spots but for the most part "The Freak" has been his unhittable self as batters struggle to get any kind of wood on his pitches. Lincecum is 9-4 with a 3.16 ERA as he has allowed 101 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out a dazzling 131 in 116 and two-thirds innings.

Evan Meek-RHP-Pittsburgh Pirates

I'm all for middle relievers getting in to the All Star game as they are as big a part of baseball as closers but just not sure Meek was the guy from the Pirates as I think Andrew McCutchen is their best player. For the season Meek has a 1.11 ERA and he has allowed 32 hits and six earned runs while striking out 45 in 48 and two-thirds innings of work.

Arthur Rhodes-LHP-Cincinnati Reds

Rhodes is having a heck of a season for Cincinnati and is another Comeback Player of the Year Candidate. Rhodes has a 1.54 ERA as he has allowed 20 hits and six earned runs while striking out 32 in 35 innings of work.

Adam Wainwright-RHP-St. Louis Cardinals

Wainwright may be the Cardinals number two but he plays like a number one and an All Star every time he hits the mound. Wainwright is 13-5 with a 2.11 ERA as he has allowed 102 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 127 in 136 and a third innings on the mound. Wainwright has gone the distance with four complete games.

Brian Wilson-RHP-San Francisco Giants

Playing on the West Coast Wilson doesn't get a lot of the publicity many of the other All Stars get but when you hear the players talk about the guy with the nasty stuff on the mound, this is the guy they talk about. Wilson has a 1.91 ERA and 23 saves and he has allowed 34 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 50 in 37 and two thirds innings of work.

Hong-Chih Kuo-LHP-Los Angeles Dodgers

Kuo was added as a replacement but his work this year doesn't look like that of anyone who has backed his way onto the team as no one can really argue with this selection. Kuo has a 0.99 ERA allowing just 13 hits and three earned runs while striking out 36 in 27 and a third innings of work.

CC.Sabathia and Jered Weaver can't pitch in the game because of new rule that prohibits anyone from pitching who started on sunday.
