Baby Bombers

Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge (called up today) are first teammates with back-to-back HR's in first plate appearances.

Tyler Austin, Aaron Judge first pair to hit back-to-back HRs in first plate appearanc

Mike Mazzeo
ESPN Staff Writer

NEW YORK -- A new era of New York Yankees baseball began with a bang.

Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge, called up by the team for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, spectacularly delivered back-to-back home runs in their first major league at-bats during the second inning.

Austin and Judge are the first pair of teammates to accomplish the feat in baseball history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Austin's homer barely cleared the right-field wall, drawing a celebration from manager Joe Girardi. Judge followed with a blast to straightaway center. The homers came off Rays right-hander Matt Andriese with one out.

Austin (13) and Judge (19) had each hit their fair share of homers this season for Triple-A Scranton.

Have to say long time Yankee fan and didn't have a dime on the game and watched the Yankee game instead of some of the games I bet. Future looks bright. first time I've been some what excited in a while. Don't like the way they treated A-Rod but they were looking to F*** him if they could. He took it well and if he signs with Miami everything he said about it's the way he wanted to go out Blah Blah Blah was all crap as we all knew. Hope he does take the Miami spot if offered.

Since RBI became official in 1920, Aaron Judge is 1st Yankee with extra-base hit and RBI in his first 3 career games

Chad Green is 3rd rookie in Yankees history with 10+ K & no walks in a game

(Stan Bahnsen in 1968 & Ivan Nova in 2011)

Funniest part of the game tonight was the young kids were hitting the ball all over the place and than the vets were leaving the base's loaded left and right, lol. I love me some Gary Sanchez, glad they never traded him.

Like we have said for years MHP ... they need to start over with young talent.

Finally.

The future could be promising.

Gary Sanchez homered twice and drove in four runs in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

His three-run shot in the fourth inning was particularly impressive, as he launched a towering blast deep into the left field seats.

He also had a single on the night.

The young catcher has been outstanding since his recall earlier this month, going 16-for-43 (.372) with 4 home runs over 11 games.

Sanchez is one of only 12 Yankees with 11+ RBIs in his first 15 career games.

Sanchez hits 7th HR since August 10, tied with Mark Trumbo and Charlie Blackmon for most in MLB in that span

Gary Sánchez & Starlin Castro each had 2 HR tonight.

Last pair of Yankees w/ 2 HR in same game ... Curtis Granderson & Robinson Cano in 2012
