I don't think the young pitchers will fare well their 1st time in the playoffs, Lincecum had trouble controlling his emotions in the All-Star game, I think his first start(s) in the playoffs will see the same result. Cain hasn't really been all that sharp lately either he will need a return to 1st half form to be a force in the playoffs if the Giants were to make it.

The giants have survived by their pitching this year.... Between cain and lincecum they have gone into the 7th inning in 40 of 54 starts... Add zitos 12times in 27 and they combined as the top 3 ~~ 52 times out of 81 starts.....

64 % of the time they go into the 7th inning and the giants are a respectable 35-17 when this happens..... Not to mention that 12 of those 17 losses are by 2 runs or less.....

Not being biased or anything but the giants staff has set up for this run quite nicely.... In the early mid part of the season lincecum was going deep into games while cain was pulled for relievers...now its cain doing the workhorsing while lincecum is being pulled for relievers....... Pretty smart if you ask me.... Now they sign penny

believe it or not i think they have a chance with the addition of brad penny.... Like post # 2 said penny will be better in the national league...he is 16-8 lifetime in september and october which can only be better than what the 4 and 5 starters are bringing in lately.... And if and i say if ...big randy come back, then their bullpen just gets better.....

Their pitching will be there no matter what...... Their season depends on one thing and one thing only...... Consistent hitting to support that pitching......... And if they do make it , i would watch out rather than think they will faulter as there is a lot of energy for a hungry young team where noone thought they would be without mr. Barry bonds !!!!
