Hernandez is solid but other then that Locke and Morton are expendible, if we put a deal up for a righty and surround a package around schafer and medlan, that should bring a solid bat in there, I dont know this deal makes really no sense what so ever, it basically tell you that these small market teams are getting crushed by this economy

McClouth traded to Atlanta for 3 prospects

Pitchers Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez in exchange.

Andrew McCutchen is called up and highly touted.

At least they have Andrew Mccutchen and Tabata but, they will trade them away
in 2 yrs.....

was pissed to see bay, nady and marte go last yr when they were playing close to .500

If Hernandez is the best of the 3 it makes no sense as the pirates have outfielders coming in tabata and mccuthen......

yeah its very sad dan, Morton could be a good number 2-3 one day at best but very unfortunate for Pittsburgh because Nate was the face of the franchise, Ryan prolly doesnt wanna come off the DL now

i was shocked i heard no rumors of them looking to deal.
they are close enough to .500 and doumit coming back soon enough
it sucks.......... Mccutchen will be exciting but, I get sick of this.
Do you think its economy related?

dan this has to be irritating after a while as a pirates fan, they just never seem to be interested in hanging onto anyone and seeing if just maybe they can put something together. i mean finishing the season .500 in what looks like a wide open division could be a huge boost to morale for pittsburgh. they go through players like i go through socks i don't get it sometimes

it has to be, they just signed him to that long term contract, its not like there playing terrible ball....there is nothing exciting about the deal for Pittsburgh....Hernandez will be a stud but I doubt he'll ever see a Pirates uni and Locke is years away from the mlb, morton is the only one I see being in the majors anytime within the next year, I dont know I heard lots of rumors about bay in atl last year and mclouth this offseason before he signed his contract but this one kinda caught me off guard too....

Merged these two threads

Would be very disturbed if I was a Pittsburgh fan. McLouth is one of your only marketable players left. If you can't afford to keep him, you should let someone else run the franchise.
