Carlos Zambrano.....Erupts....

CHICAGO (AP)—Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano(notes) threw a baseball into left field and slammed his glove against the dugout fence after he was ejected from Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

With Nyjer Morgan(notes) at third and the Cubs leading 2-1 in the seventh inning, Zambrano’s wild pitch just got away from catcher Geovany Soto(notes). Zambrano covered the plate for Soto’s throw, Morgan slid and umpire Mark Carlson ruled him safe.

Zambrano jumped up and argued and was ejected after he appeared to nudge Carlson. Zambrano then pointed in Carlson’s face and gave him the ejection sign.

But the Cubs’ emotional right-hander wasn’t finished. He fired a ball into left, tossed his glove and took a bat to a dugout cooler before heading to the clubhouse.

Carlos "Stay Close and I Will Beat Myself" Zambrano at his best. You play the games from the neck down, but win the games from the neck up.

please. all of you zambrano bashers can take a hike. he cares and wants to win. i would much rather have 25 of him on my roster than guys that dont care about winning and only about their personal stats. todays call at the plate was probably correct by the umpire, but it was the umpire who initiated contact with z. and the way that the umps treat the cubs should be looked at. they get more terrible strikes called against them and especially bradley. when he was ejected and suspended it was because the umpire clearly called ball 4 a strike and he had a right to be pissed off. tim tschida calls a guy safe the other night at 3rd and the replay clearly shows he was out. i watch a lot of baseball and think that the cubs get the worst jobbing by the umps out of all the teams. on purpose or not, a team can only take so much and today, zambrano had had enough of the idiot behind the plate. go carlos go.

guy is a choker.... check out his late season stats.

everybody forgets him giving up a 4-0 lead in game 1 of NLCS vs Marlins. Would have been a sweep if he pitches an average game.

Nothing wrong with players having heart. Its when they let their head take their heart out of the game that it hurts the team. No doubt Zambrano and Bradley come to the park with a "heart on" every day. I would rather have 25 guys who play from the neck up every day.

Z will never be elite pitcher until he controls his "head and heart"

Hard to believe we are in agreement from time to time. I will take issue with you on this.

Just what exactly is an "average" game for a 22 year old pitcher with a career record of 18-21?

Are you holding these thoughts of him blowing the 2003 shot for all these years? Yikes
