But they'll catch a break this Saturday, as they won't have to face Mariners right-hander Doug Fister, who has the American League's third-best ERA at 2.45.

With Fister battling right shoulder soreness, Los Angeles will face left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith, who has struggled this season with an 0-4 record and 7.24 ERA. On the other side of the equation, red-hot right-hander Ervin Santana takes the mound for the Angels at Safeco Field.

It will mark Rowland-Smith's first start since May 17, as he posted a 7.62 ERA in eight starts to begin the season before being shifted to the bullpen and making three appearances as a reliver. But Rowland-Smith is excited about a chance to bounce back as a starter, as he posted a 3.74 ERA in 15 starts last season.

"This is what I want to do," Rowland-Smith said. "I want to be a starting pitcher, and this is what I've had success doing in the past. Honestly, I'm just looking at it as I'm going to go out and have fun, go out and just throw every pitch as one pitch. If I'm in the second inning, I can't be worrying about the fourth or fifth inning. I just have to go out, get back to myself, back to pitching and I'll be OK."

While Rowland-Smith has seen his share of struggles this season, Santana has been sharp, posting a 5-3 record and a 3.43 ERA in 11 starts.

But Santana isn't immune to struggles either. He had a 5.03 ERA last year, but he's started returning to his form from 2008 -- when he was an All-Star and posted a 3.49 ERA with 214 strikeouts in 219 innings.
