Cubs outfielder on fire in Spring training

Outfielder Tyler Colvin has gone at .475 in spring and went 4-5 Saturday and looks to have sealed himself a place on the Cubs opening day roster.

Manager Lou Piniella :

"He's not looking for a roster spot," manager Lou Piniella said. "He's looking for somebody's position."

"You don't want a young kid like that just sitting and being a defensive replacement," Piniella said. "So, basically if he's here, he has to play a couple days a week to get some at-bats and see how he does."

Well, hopefully this kid finds a full-time spot. Sounds like he could be something they really need.

Take soriano's spot. Pay him $17mm to sit on the bench and watch the cards beat them.

Cards may beat them, but not because Soriano's watching from the sidelines, unless he gets injured

I agree with you about Tyler, I have seen him play a lot the past couple of years when he was with the Tennessee Smokies before they called him up. My parents have season tickets for the smokies right behind the dugout and actually they got to know him pretty well. Tylers father calls them quite a bit since his mom passed a while back.
Tyler is a great guy and can really play. He keeps sending my nephew autographed balls, batting gloves and playing cards. Im trying to get him to get me an autographed cubs ball.
Last week when they talked Tylers father said the plan was to keep in on the roster and possible send him back and forth after the first few games. If he keeps playing like this I don't think they will be sending him back and forth.
I'll know more later he is supposed to call today or tommorow, Im trying to get as much info as I can. It would be nice to have an inside connection wih the cubs.

My mother just got off the phone with Tyler Colvins dad and he made the Cubs roster. He also said he will probably win the spring training MVP. He has he highest batting average at I think .475.
Im a Braves fan and they open with the Cubs so I am planning on going down to Atlanta for the Thursday game, might get to see him finally play a MLB game.

Lou said when asked by a reporter whether he would make the roster, "Make the roster? He is trying to get a position"

Hopefully he is thr real deal..If he keeps on keepin on, the Cubs may eat some more cash and move Fukedome, but unlikely
