Dan Uggla.....

A source told MLB.com's Joe Frisaro that the Marlins "are not confident" they'll be able to sign Dan Uggla to an extension and have been "initiating and fielding calls" for the second baseman.

Frisaro writes that the Marlins are "prepared to go in another direction." They've had talks with the Tigers, as well as at least two other unidentified National League teams, regarding Uggla. The Marlins are reportedly asking for relief pitching in return for Uggla and are in the market for a catcher, as well. Uggla, who is eligible for free agency after the 2011 season, recently turned down the team's four-year, $48 million extension offer, and the Marlins evidently think they can't go above and beyond that. This guy can rake homers though with the best of them at 2b.

Report: Blue Jays favorite to land 2B Uggla

Uggla

ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that sources are saying the Blue Jays are the favorite to trade for Dan Uggla.

Expect Uggla talk to pick up serious steam starting Monday at the GM meetings. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal previously reported that the Nationals, Tigers, Braves, Red Sox, Cardinals, Giants, Orioles and Blue Jays all had interest in Uggla. The Silver Slugger winner will turn 31 in March and recently turned down Florida's four-year, $48 million extension offer. Uggla is under team control for one more season via salary arbitration. Unless Pujols will take $50 bucks, I don't think Marlins will pursue him

Marlins should be contracted. It is amazing this organization got a stadium built for them. I get they have won but as soon as they do they blow it up and start fresh.

JMO but I think Florida came out OK in this one. Personally I didnt like the idea of paying a guy like who will be 31 next year 48 million over 4 years. Infante is no slouch and Dunn can help the pen and they can invest that 48 million is something more impact.

They paid Hanley and offered it to Uggla. Seems to me they invest smart and know when to cash in a bad hand and wait for the next one. Personally I think they're scouting is top notch nobody does more in baseball with less than the Marlins.
