Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Diamondbacks are "believed to have offered" Mark Reynolds a two-year contract worth $13.5 million.
The proposed extension wouldn't likely begin until 2011, as Reynolds is not eligible for arbitration until after the 2010 season. The Diamondbacks already locked up Justin Upton for the next six years, but negotiations have proved more difficult with Reynolds. The 26-year-old third baseman batted .260/.349/.543 last season with 44 home runs, 102 RBI and 24 stolen bases last season.
