Dodgers/Philadelphia play
I recommend the Phillies to wrap up series with the Dodgers. Though Padilla deserves a lot of credit, check the facts. In last eight starts, he's faced five opponents that could not hit (AZ-2, SF-2, Wash.) and caught Colorado the day after clinching pennant in meaningless game on the last day of the season. Padilla pitched well against Cardinals who were in a hitting slump and was impressive against Philly in Game 2 The Dodgers are 8-1 backing Vicente Padilla, including 2-0 in the playoffs, with the righty going 1-0 with a 0.63 ERA in those two postseason starts against the Cards and Phillies.. Given his usual track record and Phils urgency before home crowd i like this play though. The Phillies’ Cole Hamels, last year’s World Series MVP, has allowed eight runs in just 10.1 innings in two postseason starts this year, going 1-1 with a 6.97 ERA. However, the righthander is a perfect 5-0 with a 2.19 ERA in seven career starts against the Dodgers, including three playoff affairs.
Los Angeles is 1-6 in its last seven road games, and Philly is 10-1 in its last 11 home playoff contests.
