minnesota twins vs toronto blue jays

well many of you know i like handicapping lefties, especially ones from the minors and today i like this matchup... Sometimes numbers and stats are deceiving and dont tell the whole story.... Torontos starting pitcher marc rzepczynski comes into todays game with a bunch of numbers that dont catch your eye....

At first glance you see a pitcher just called up with a 4-3 record 6.66 era in 48 innings of work in 9 starts this season at aaa.... But if you dont dig deep into those starts, you wont find out that marc is coming into this game in top form .... His last 2 starts for the las vegas 51's...

june 23rd home against the sacramento river cats

7 2/3 innings pitched / 3 hits / 1bb / 9 k's ~~~ what was important about this game was the fact that this was his second consecutive improving start ... Not to mention that the sac rivercats after being shut down by marc went on to win 9 of their next 11 games.... Sacramento also has the 2nd best road record

june 28th away against the fresno grizzilies

now fresno is the best pcl team right now and they hold the best record by 5 games over everyone 52-34 and have the best home record 27-16 .... Marcs numbers in this game were mildly fair

5 innings pitched / 7 hits / 2er / 4 bb's / 5 k's ~~ imo this was his workout game for todays game as the coaching staff stretched him out for 110 pitches.... He had a lot to deal with as umpire clint fagan who was behind the plate.... Clint fagan is known around the minors as having one of the most smallest strike zones in the business... Probably the reason why he hasnt made it to the bigs yet.... On this day that he was umping, there were 30 hits /20 runs scored / 6 hrs and 9 walks.... So you get the kind of idea how he is behind the plate.... Marc faced this same team on june 3rd and shut them down in 6 inn on 4 hit ball giving up 1 run.... A tale of two different games

the bluejays picked a right spot to bring him back up against kevin slowey who has given up 18 runs in his last 4 starts and has a 6.11 era on the road... Sure he may have had a decent start in his last against the tigers in game 3 of that series.... But the tigers seemed flat in that one so i dont know how much value it has... If there is a time to catch slowey its when he is away from home as he is lifetime 12-13 (5.19 era) away compared to 22-7 (3.79 era) at home ...

Yesterdays game showcased the power and wind with hrs galore, but i think today we are going to see a little more of a pitching game between these two.... With jim wolf behind the dish tonight you can be sure of a low scoring game as he is 0-9 to the under this season when a lefty and righty start ( 3-12 overall ) , not to mention he averages only 6.1 runs per a game.... With that being said im going to take the home team advantage here in a low scoring game with the call-up pitching kid in his first ever start against these twins.... Both teams are pretty equal offensively for this month of july so this game should end with the final score of ~~~ jays 5 ~~ twins 3
