Philly is only team that will give him 10 year. That will be the deal breaker.

Free agent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is in agreement on a deal with the Yankees pending a physical, he is expected to join the Yankees on a league-minimum deal, with the Jays paying the remainder of his $20 million salary.

Tulo is expected to play shortstop for the Yanks while Didi recovers from Tommy John. This does not take New York out of the Machado sweepstakes.

Tulowitzki at the minimum salary was simply "too good to pass up".

To make room for Tulowitzki on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated A.J. Cole for assignment.

Zach Britton deal to stay with Yankees is 3 years for about $40M

NY can exercise fourth-year option after second year. If they do not, Britton can opt out. Option would take deal past $50M

Momentum building toward Harper's return to Washington

Phillies (who are set to meet with Harper this week in Vegas) appear to be turning up their pursuit of Machado.

Report: White Sox offer Machado an 8-year deal

All I can say is good luck to the White Sox or Phillies if they sign Machado to an eight year deal to the kind of money being bandied about in their hopes to try to buy the WS.
This kind of unbalanced strategy rarely works as the Yankees learned for so many years before changing their ways.
This is without even considering all of the negative intangibles and bad karma Machado brings to the table.

So lets see-JD Martinez received $110 million for five years because DD was smart and wouldn't give in to the absurd demands of BorASS, and he turns out to be a major contributor to the team's winning the WS.
And now Machado's camp was double that or $40 million over eight years, when he hasn't even proved himself and his worth with whoever his new team is going to be-yeah right-great thinking. lol

Despite reports of 8 year offer, the White Sox have not bid against themselves on long term Machado deal.

7 years has been the max offered ... AAV likely between $25 and $30 mil.

Imo with or without Machado it will be a major accomplishment if White Sox come close to winning 81 games this year.

For me the bigger issue is not whether the White Sox get Machado but whether the GM/FO of this team know what's their doing in the first place.
A 62-100 record last season and lots of mediocre and/or bad seasons prior to that at the very least call into question the ability/competency of this group to put together a good competitive team.

If the Yankees can't beat 7/$175M it's time to close up shop.

Of course they can. They obviously don't want to.

Imo great and intelligent move on Yankees part to set a limit of money and years of contract and stick to it with him or anyone-just ask Dombrowski the right way to do things as he showed with his dealings with JD Martinez and his agent last year.
Who knows for sure how Machado would perform in New York?-it is no lock for sure that he is the missing piece needed to put Yankees over the top.
Let him prove himself first before acceding to his insane contractual demands.

You need to get with the times ... It's 2019, not 1973

There is no such thing as signing a top tier player for a 1-2 year trial run.

Not one top notch player would ever consider that, it's all about making the most money possible.

If all GM's took the same approach as DD did with JD Martinez by holding pretty firm to what he felt he was worth overall and not really budging, then you would see those absurd demands of players come down pretty fast and especially so as Opening Day approached and the player was still unsigned.
Imo only a moron of a GM would offer a 300 million dollar guaranteed contract to anyone without seeing how he performed with the new team.
At least with Betts, the Sox know what he is capable of doing with the Sox and can make their offer accordingly.
Imo Machado has proven he can get it done with the O's and that's about it other than a little stint with the Dodgers.
Just look over the list of FA's of late who were paid tons of money and who did essentially little or very little to help the team's chances.
From just a Sox point of view, how about for starters, Carl Crawford, Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval and even David Price until this past season.

Yesterday, the Padres were the talk of MLB hot stove Twitter, as it became know that they are interested in signing Machado. They are also in trade talks with the Miami Marlins regarding catcher J.T. Realmuto.

The betting industry is taking these rumors seriously, as the Padresí win total was taken off the board.

They had been at 78.5 earlier in the week, which was in the middle of their NL West competition.

Dodgers: 94.5
Rockies: 82.5
Diamondbacks: 77.5
Giants: 73.5

Other teams interested in Machado include the Phillies (84.5) and White Sox (75.5).

The Padresí World Series odds are still posted at +6600, but itís possible they get the Chicago White Sox treatment if the rumors keep up.

The White Sox were at +8000 before the Winter Meetings, but are now +3300 despite not actually making any significant roster improvements. Thatís what happens when youíre linked to both Machado and Bryce Harper. Their odds will surely drop if they arenít able to sign either, though.

The Padresí MLB roster remains unremarkable for the time being, but they have a glut of stud prospects that will be ready for the majors very soon. Leading the way is shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who is considered a top-3 prospect in baseball.

Catching prospect Francisco Mejia is also highly touted, though is believed to a necessary trade piece for Miami if they want to acquire Realmuto.

Padres have reportedly offered Manny an eight-year deal worth at least $240 million.
