Post Going for 4th straight "Best Bet" win

Houston at St Louis

The Cardinals, opening a nine-game homestand, have won five straight series at Busch Stadium, going 12-4 during that span.

Cardinals scheduled starter Adam Wainwright (14-7, 2.61 ERA) has pitched very well in St. Louis this season, posting a 2.02 ERA in 14 starts.

Wainwright, going for his career-high 15th win, is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts against Houston this year. As mentioned in my pitching "hot pitchers" report on Adam Wainwright: Honestly who has been better than this guy in the National League? One could argue he is having a better season than his teammate Chris Carpenter. Wainwright has a 2.61 ERA ont he year and a 14-7 record. In his last 5 starts he is 3-1 with a 1.04 WHIP and a 1.26 ERA.

Wainwright will make a home start against Wandy Rodriguez and the Astros in what should be another pitchers duel for him at home. He has a 2.02 ERA at home, but is settling for a 5-6 record. His last three home starts he carries a 2-1 record and a 0.81 ERA. He has a great career against the Astros with 8 starts and a 2.00 ERA. The Cardinals are 7-1 in those 8 starts by Wainwright.

Houston should continue to struggle as they are 3-8 in their last 11 games vs. RH starters and over their last 10 games they have a .250 average and are scoring 3.60 runs per 9 innings vs. RHP.
The Astros (61-63) had dropped seven straight at Busch prior to that victory.

Wandy Rodriguez (12-7, 2.89) takes the mound Tuesday for Houston, which begins a nine-game trip. The left-hander has gone 7-1 with a 2.38 ERA in his last 11 starts.Rodriguez has gone 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in four starts in St. Louis,& is a good pitcher in his own right.
The Astros, losers of 12 of 16 on the road, have not won a series away from Minute Maid Park since June 29-July 2.

St Louis
