It's Getting Real Interesting In The AL West...

The hard charging A's and Mariners have made it a 3 team race. could the unthinkable happen and the Astros miss the playoffs?

oh boy... i'm not saying he's going to lose but he may consider hedging some of it if he can. getting too close for comfort.

the scary thing for the astros is that the mariners and a's bullpens are much better. look at diaz he saved all 4 wins in the sweep this weekend and is by far the league leader in saves. also today treinen saves the game against the angels by striking out the side 1-2-3.and the a's also can throw familia, trivino, and rodney at you before treinen comes in. of
course astros starters are great but if they don't give the bullpen a good lead it gets dicey.

Houston has the #1 pen ERA in all of baseball. Diaz is having a monster year but he is only 1 arm in that pen. He has a shitload of saves because Seattle is always playing in close games.

Houston is banged up a little but on paper they are the clear best team in all of baseball.

Boston is having a dominant season thats for sure but I dont see it carrying over into the playoffs.

PEACE

Diaz should be in the conversation for Cy Young... he isnt only because he is in Seattle

i would much rather have familia, trivino, and rodney , treinen , and diaz over the guys in the astros bullpen. but would take the astros starters over the a's and mariners starters.

Hector Rondon leads the astros with 13 saves. he blew the save today by giving up a homer with 2 outs in the 9th.

A's are a scrappy team top to bottom and they made some savvy additions to their pen. I like the A's.

It was a pop up into the Crawford boxes Vikes. Sure they all count the same but lets not act like it was some sort of Rondon implosion. Rondon has been lights out all season.

Astros pen is real deep & good. If I had to guess it sounds like you can't get Giles out of your head.

PEACE

The only team to repeat and win the WS in the last 25 years was the Yankees 18 years ago. I don't think Houston does it again. It is tough to get everything to go right 2 years in a row and I think somebody knocks them out.

well i personally don't trust rondon. he was the reason the cubs went out and got chapman 2 years ago which got them over the hump to win the world series. and rondon has 13 saves and has 4 blown saves, hardly lights out all year. so like i said i would take diaz and the a's pen over rondon and the astros pen and i don't know who wouldn't right now.

I dont think he should win it... I dont think relievers should be eligible. Im just saying if he was pitching for another team or in a different city there would be more talk about it

Isn't Osuna going to be their closer eventually?

With their win over Houston, the Athletics are now tied with the Astros for first place in the AL West.

Oakland hasn't been in 1st place this late in the season since August 25, 2014, when they were tied with the Angels.

oakland's win last night was just incredible. they tie the game in the 9th on an overturned call that was so bang bang at home and then win it in the 10th on a walk off hr. if the call stood and he was out at home astros lead by 3 games going into today and would have been assured of leaving oakland tomorrow stiil in 1st place.

All I know is that if things hold up and the Sox win the division, imo they would face a series challenge from Oakland should they meet.
Oakland took two out of three from the Sox this season in both Oakland and at Fenway and last year won five out of the eight games played between them.
That said, if Yankees should play Oakland in the one game elimination game to advance into playoffs, I would still root for them to defeat the Yankees for a number of both tangible and intangible reasons and in general that certain Yankee mystique which never goes away for me as a longtime Sox fan.

Astros bullpen looks much better now that Osuna is the closer and Rondon is the setup man and the other guys in their pen are doing well. big series again with oakland starting tonight in houston.
