Joe Nathan to have Tommy John surgery

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Minnesota Twins closer Joe Nathan will miss the 2010 season because of an elbow injury that will require surgery.

Nathan

Nathan, who leads the major leagues with 246 saves since 2004, made the decision after playing catch with Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson for 10 minutes on Sunday.

Nathan hopes to have surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow within two weeks. He was injured on March 6 during a 20-pitch outing in a spring training game against the Boston Red Sox.

Nathan said his goal would be to return at the start of the 2011 season.

The 35-year-old right-hander went 2-2 with a 2.10 ERA and a career-best 47 saves last season.

sorry gerkster

Gerk now lets be realistic here, do you really think Heath Bell will be the same pitcher that he was last year....I dont think he will especially is the AL, he did play in the worst division in baseball....

also, how do you think the new ballpark will suit your team, looks to be a very nice ballpark

I'll be happy to bet Twins vs. Royals season bet

Noles, that's just one of the rumors floating around here. I would prefer to have someone who has closing experience. Don't know if I trust Rauch, Guerrier etc.

The new ballpark is very nice, I drive by it every day on my way to work. May end up being a suprisingly good hitters park from what Morneausaid when he hit some balls there earlier.

I've been keeping a close eye on him and he looks 10 times better already in spring training then he looked all year last year....could very well be a nice addition to a fantasy pitching staff
