Joey Votto

Probably the best hitter no one really talks about. If he does this for 5 more years I see him in the conversation of top 5 hitters in the game.

Just looked at his numbers... they are Miguel Cabrera like. What is your opinion on him? And does he make the Reds viable for years to come?

I am not a Reds fan btw, because when I first heard that comment (from a Reds fan) I laughed at him.

I understand that but considered one of the best in the game? I thought he was an all star and having a good year but no where near top 5

Joey and the reds in general are very under-rated. His numbers are so clutch. His hitting streak in the early season really got this team rolling. In a bigger market Joey Votto would be a MVP lock. Should be right up there regardless IMO. He is the heart and soul of the Reds!

have ya watch BBTN or sportscenter? constantly talking about him and that he might even be over taking pujols for the MVP, which is mind blowing since pujols might win the triple crown and leads in HR and RBIs!!!

The fact he is not only Canadian, but from my city of Toronto makes it even better. I would love to see the Reds in the playoffs & see what kind of damage they can do.

I have no problems with Joey Votto and think he is a fine player but lets not get carried away here.

He is in his 3rd full major league season and for the first time he is putting up All Star caliber numbers playing in a band box for a home ball park on a team leading his league in runs.

Please do not compare Votto to the likes of Cabrera and Pujols just yet......it wouldn't be fair to him or them IMO.

agree with most of what you said about not getting carried away and no way deserves to be mentioned with cabrera & pujols

But last year he did hit .320 and hit 25 homers, and the year before that was .300 and 20 homers I believe. He's put up all-star caliber numbers each year he's been in the league if you ask me

I can't say 300 20 HR 80 RBI for a 1B is All Star worthy......sure its nice but nothing to get crazy about.

Miggy Cabrera in his first 2 full seasons with the Fish went 293 33 112 and 323 33 116 in a much bigger park.

Pujols 328 37 130 and 313 34 127

Berkman 331 34 126 and 292 42 128

Fielder 270 28 81 and 288 50 119

Honestly I am not trying to take anything away from Votto because he is a very good player but the only reason he is getting any attention to begin with is because of the success of the Reds which is in large part due to their pitching and not because Votto is some superstar that nobody knows about IMO.

Relative to where they have been the previous 5 or so years their pitching is what has improved.

Again I am not taking the position that Votto is overrated or their offense is comparable to the Padres or Braves which it isn't. I just don't think he is underrated. Votto thus far in what has been his best season to date is basically producing at the same level Kevin Youkilis has been producing for quite some time now and I don't hear his name ever compared with the top hitters in the game. Votto is an up and coming player and if he can sustain this level of production for say another 5 years running should then get his name mentioned with the greats of the game.

PEACE
