ok. after he blows his 7th save or gives up 10 more hr's this year, then he will be even with gregg. until then, he is absolutely the best option at closer for this team. gregg stinks plain and simple. the cubs should cut him now and eat the contract and use another of the kids in the bullpen. the league is hitting about .160 vs marmol, with only 1 hr, and if he regains better control, he is a candidate for being a very good closer for years to come. the worrisome thing is the cubs coaches. seldom does a pitcher get better when playing for the cubs. they usually get worse. i fear that is what happened to marmol early this season, poor coaching. if he throws strikes, he could be fantastic

the worst thing you can do as manager is put a guy who walks everyone as closer.

he will make sure the winning run comes to the plate every time out - good thinking lou, the guy who can't throw strikes is the guy youre bringing into the game in the 9th inning of a close ball game lmao

league bats .160 off him cause the pitches theyre swinging at aren't strikes

gregg > marmol

hell put heilmann in as closer, at least someone who throws strikes

even in marmol's best years he was average as a closer. Guzman should get a shot at it.

marmol has never been a closer til now, except for the rare occasion. and he is really young. after seeing gregg's stats the last 2 years, how can you think that he is the answer to anything? he wont be back next year, and probably wont make it til the end of this year. cut him now. let marmol learn this year and we can take the lumps since we arent going anywhere anyway. if it works out, great and no need to find anyone for next year. if it doesnt, then we look for a closer. remember, no one thought mariano rivera was lights out when he started and some 13 years later, he is a future hall of famer. let marmol close.
