Minnesota acquires Carl Pavano

Guess it can't hurt, but would prefer if Alyssa Milano was included in the deal.

The Twins agreed Friday to send the Cleveland Indians a player to be identified later in exchange for Pavano, a one-time All-Star whose career derailed in New York during four injury-ruined seasons with the Yankees.

"He's certainly had a significant injury history over the last few years, but he has been healthy this year," Minnesota general manager Bill Smith said from Detroit, where the Twins were scheduled to play the first-place Tigers later Friday. "We've had good reports about him on and off the field, and we're hoping that he can provide some innings for us down the stretch."

The Twins began the day in third place in the AL Central, 4 1/2 games behind the Tigers.

Which brings me to my next point - what's the purpose of the trade deadline in MLB. I know what the rules say, but it's really just an imaginary date that means very little................

For the 1st time in more than a decade, I like the direction of the O's. Outfield is solid for years to come with Jones, Markakis, and Reimold, solid behind the plate with Weiters, solid at 2nd with Roberts. Need a SS, 3B and need Aubrey to stay at first. Young starting pitching is coming along nicely, pen is a mess and we need a closer. Despite all those needs, we're closer than we have been in years, IMO...........

Linesmakers like the trade, Twins down from +115 to -110 (guy must be a stud, line dropped 25 cents and he's not even playing yet)!!!
