Wainwright was brilliant in his last outing. He gave up 6 hits and struck out 7 in 8 innings of a 5-0 win over Houston on Monday. The righthander looks for a 20 inning loss in the in part of a 3 game set. Wainwright has allowed 4 runs in 2 inning of relief vs the Mets, But hasn't faced New York since 06 during the NLCS.
Maine (0-1, 13.50) hasn't fared nearly as well as Wainwright. The Right-hander has given up 12 runs in 8 innings over the last 2 starts posting a HR Durby era of 13.50. He allowed 8 runs i 3 innings of an 11-3 loss at Colorado on Tuesday. Facing the Cardinals might not help him get back on track. Maine is 1-2 with an explosive era of 6.23 era against St. Louis, and he's allowed 10 runs in 9 2/3 innings while losing his last 2 apperances at Busch. Maine has been absolutely terrible thus far but I look for Maine to be more focused tonight and take full advantage of a tired Cardinals squad for the 20 inning game last night, not too mention he will have help from Bay who is 6-17against Wainwright and the right-hander does have a poor history in relief against the Mets. So if Wainwright struggles in relief then he will surely struggle as a starter against the Mets.
