The World Series champion Houston Astros have boosted their rotation with another big arm, acquiring Gerrit Cole from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a five-player trade.

The deal was announced Saturday. In exchange, the Pirates received right-handers Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz, third baseman Colin Moran and outfielder Jason Martin.

Jays just signed reliever John Axford.

Not a great signing imo, but something I’m guessing he’s always wanted. Him and his wife are extremely nice and I’m sure they prefer he retires here.

Red Sox offered JD Martinez a 5 year/$125 million contract and he is pissed that they are not being flexible and willing to go to 7 years or more per season. Now he says he would rather sign elsewhere. I don't think in this FA season that is a bad offer. It seems like the only other team with an offer is Arizona. If I were Boston I would go 6 years/$150 and say final offer. I don't think they will though.

5 yr $125,000,000 is not enough? when you have a hard time getting over 500 AB's in a season and your 30. Lets get 7 so im locked in case I suck in 3-5 years.

As was first reported by Pedro Gomez of ESPN, the team has finalized a deal with free-agent slugger J.D. Martinez. FanRagSports.com was first to surface the momentum. MLB.com reports it's a five-year deal with an opt-out after two years, with Martinez making $110 million over the five years.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com, the deal will play Martinez $50 million over the first two seasons. There is another opt-out after the third season.
