I say no
He received MVP votes once in his entire career, he finished 16th in the voting. Never one of the best 15 players of any season he's ever played, let alone one of the best players of his era |

I think it will be close. I love Ozzie Smith, but when I compare Omar and Ozzie, the gap isn't that big on the surface. Ozzie was definitely more flashy and had style, but Omar aint bad. Not saying Omar is better than Ozzie, but interesting look at the stats....
Ozzie Smith 19yrs 13 Gold Gloves .262 BA 2,460 Hits

I think yes...til he left the American league no one was a better defensive shortstop...
he is hurt because of the steroid era of offense for shortstops... wde

not a lot of people have been left out with 2700 hits either......dont see the argument against him. Since he wasn't an MVP candidate put him in on like the 3rd ballot

I'd hate to see it because he just isn't high enough caliber to be worthy, but the guy has compiled enough stats that he probably gets in. Especially if he gets 3k hits which he might. I actually think that will be the deciding factor considering how borderline he is, does he play long enough to get 3k hits or not? If not it will be possible to justify keeping him out.
Another interesting current player to consider the HOF chances of is Adam Dunn...yes Adam Dunn. Seriously now, the guy is probably going to hit 600 homers easily (already has 350 at age 30 and I would say it's a "young" 30) and never a whisper of steroids... going to be hard to stomach voting in a .250 career hitter, but also gonna be hard to keep him out if he hits that many legit.
