Is Pettitte HOF material ?
competitor isn't he ?
going for his 200 th W today just for the Yankees, or something like that. He breaks Whitey Ford's win record ?? I think he has 230 something total Last edited by secondbase; 06-05-2010 at 01:52 PM. |

Long-term he is, but I don't think he gets it on the first ballot.

I say yes IF he has one more year like this (or say another 25-30 wins before retirement) plus another ring.
He has to have some of the most playoff wins all time.

Think he would have to get to 300 wins as relatively poor as his career numbers are. Career .270 BAA, 3.87 ERA, numbers just don't look HOF worthy and he has never been close to being the best pitcher in the game, never even in the discussion so I would have to say no unless he gets to 300.
Has been an excellent postseason pitcher though so like Schilling he has that going for him. Numbers quite a bit worse than Schilling's though so Schilling really needs to get in for Pettitte to have a chance - again barring 300 wins.

Maybe he can help his chances today:
Yankees are 43-18 in Pettittes last 61 starts. |
