Pettitte To Retire

Pettitte compiled a 240-138 record and 3.88 ERA in 13 seasons with the Yankees and three with the Houston Astros. He is a three-time All Star, a two-time 20-game winner and a member of five Yankees world championship teams. He appeared in two other World Series with the Yankees as well and another with the Astros. He's won more games, 19, than any pitcher in postseason history.

Pettitte's decision to retire leaves the Yankees treacherously thin in the starting rotation, with CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes and A.J. Burnett the only experienced returning starters on the staff.

Ivan Nova, who made a handful of starts as a rookie last season, is expected to fill the No. 4 spot and a collection of retreads (Sergio Mitre plus new acquisitions Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia) will compete for the No. 5 spot in spring training unless Cashman can add another experienced starter.

except where Pettitte was 19-10 in career postseason, while Glavine was only 14-16 for his career postseason. So yeah, Andy benefited playing for the Yankees, but Glavine played for a good Braves club for those many years, and he lost more postseason games than he won. Pettitte was a VERY good pitcher and I would say is a borderline Hall of Famer.

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

it's about the wins though. Fact is, Glavine pitched well, for some good Braves teams, but yet was less than .500 for his career in the playoffs. There's alot to be said for performing when it counts most. That's where Andy shines. Plus, let's not forget that he went 19-10 against playoff quality teams--he wasn't fattening up on the dregs of the AL.

How is a career postseason ERA of 3.30 not performing when it counts? Seems like that more comes down to run support with the win\loss record compared to Pettitte, especially with an ERA that is over half a run lower. I don't dislike Pettitte, but by no measurable stat can he be ranked above Glavine in my mind.....The ERA sums it up.
