I don't think either should be fired. That group won two titles, that should be enough to save them.

But hearing all kids of people saying Epstein going to take over Cubs. If that happens then I think new guy might get rid of Francona

I have a feeling they will get rid of Francona and I think this would be a mistake. It is hard to manage a team when your pitchers in the month of September couldn't get an out to save their friggen lives, it is hard to win games when your supposed closer in the past week has blown 2 saves that cost them.

This month has to go down as one of the worst months ever in the history of baseball for pitching from a team trying to win a division or a wild card spot.

Theo will not get fired. Not a personel problem. The team he created had the 2nd best record in baseball for most of the season besides the Phils. If anyone its Francona, but I dont even think thats the case. Their stars basically choked down the stretch, not sure I blame a manager for guys like Beckett and Lester not performing down the stretch after they have done it year after year. A fluky thing.

I bring back the majority of the team but guys like Lackey need to go for sure. they get Bucholtz back, add 1 started and they will be fine.

No kidding. 3 of the 4 games last night had blown saves. The Atl as well as Papplebon choked down the stretch. Some major collapses during games.

its like ryen russillo said today on espn radio, before epstein the red sox were about finding a good #2 starter

they owe a lot to him, despite some bad front office moves recently, lackey etc

all gms make bad moves at some point

he doesnt desrve the boot but as a yankee fan i can hope theres enough pressure from dumb red sox fans to have him take on a new challenge

the cubs

as for francona, he may have lost the lockerroom toward the end of this collapse but again not sure they can find better and he wouldnt be unemployed long

I think Theo leaving Boston for Chicago would be an absolutely brutal decision on his part. The Cubs are just a waste of a franchise imo nowadays, dont know why you'd leave a job like the Red Sox for the Cubs, it'd be like leaving the Yankees to go to the Dodgers

Francona is a dam good manager and the thing I always think about when replacing a guy like him is, who could you get that would really be better??? Dont see anyone out there that would be better. Unless he lost the clubhouse like some have said, if thats the case then maybe it is time to go but I have a hard time believing he lost the clubhouse

I think (and Im a yanks fan) I agree with Cali roots for the most part. Just kinda gotta chalk this one up to a tank job and make a few pitching tweaks and try again next year

lackey for sure absolutely has to go though, that guy was pathetic, truly pathetic all year

can't believe Tito being fired is even a thought... crash any Starting pitching like he had to deal with and your team will crash... Check Atlanta...

As a Sox fan, this is 100% correct.

They problem with Lackey is we have him for another 3 years. Assuming nobody takes that contract or we pay him off and ship him out.

Sounds like Tito and the Red Sox are going to part ways.

I wonder who they go after?

From teh comments made by Francona, it sounds like he is almost admitting he lost the lockeroom. It is hard for teh managers to stay in one place that long and still the players be so dedicated. We get on football players and basketball players for the "its all about me" attitude. Well baseball players are the same. Too many athletes are all about themselves and not a team and lack respect for management. Sound slike the players wanted to do things their way and Francona could not reel them in. Its a shame.
