Probable Hot & Cold pitchers for 8-25-9
Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:
Adam Wainwright (Cardinals) Honestly who has been better than this guy in the National League? One could argue he is having a better season than his teammate Chris Carpenter. Wainwright has a 2.61 ERA ont he year and a 14-7 record. In his last 5 starts he is 3-1 with a 1.04 WHIP and a 1.26 ERA. Wainwright will make a home start against Wandy Rodriguez and the Astros in what should be another pitchers duel for him at home. He has a 2.02 ERA at home, but is settling for a 5-6 record. His last three home starts he carries a 2-1 record and a 0.81 ERA. He has a great career against the Astros with 8 starts and a 2.00 ERA. The Cardinals are 7-1 in those 8 starts by Wainwright. Houston should continue to struggle as they are 3-8 in their last 11 games vs. RH starters and over their last 10 games they have a .250 average and are scoring 3.60 runs per 9 innings vs. RHP. Ross Ohlendorf (Pirates) Ohlendorf has put up some very nice numbers very quietly this season for the Pirates. Pirates are just as hot as any team as of late, but they will have their work cut out for them against the Phillies. Ohlendorf has a 4.15 ERA and an 11-8 record on the season, but in his last 5 starts he has pitched his best with a 3-1 record and a 2.59 ERA. Ohlendorf will face another hot starter on Tuesday so as far as the live sports betting lines go which have the Pirates are under dogs at +163. If you are looking for value here it is right in front of you. Notables - Last 5 Starts! Joe Blanton (2-2, 1.15 WHIP, 2.70 ERA) Bronson Arroyo (1-3, 1.10 WHIP, 2.41 ERA) Matt Cain (0-2, 0.94 WHIP, 2.97 ERA) Jon Lester (1-0, 1.04 WHIP, 2.76 ERA Most likely to sustain and win: Adam Wainwright Probable Cold Starting Pitchers: Brian Matusz (Orioles) Matusz will make only his 5th start here on Tuesday night and it has not been pretty mostly because he has faced some stiff competition. He has just one decent start and he only went 5 innings in that start. He has faced the Angels, Tigers, Rays, and Bluejays and now has to face the Twins at home with Joe Mauer, the best hitter in the game right now. Under normal circumstances I'd say this is an opportunity to take a pitcher that is relatively unknown that has faced tough competition, but he is facing another team on turf where he has two starts with a 10.13 ERA. I would recommend just laying off this game. Notables - Last 5 Starts! Jeff Suppan (0-2, 1.83 WHIP, 6.59 ERA) Jose Contreras (1-2, 1.52 WHIP, 6.29 ERA) Most likely to rebound: Jose Contreras
